I couldn't shift out of locked position all of the sudden on my 98 D1. I Just removed the front driveshaft for a week or so until I had some time to pull the console today . I found the nylon seat popped out. Beer, rubber hose, and some zip ties solved the issue...... For now, how does one go about doing a proper fix on this? Thanks in advance

You are just ahead of me for this problem and this is getting mentioned more and more. I am working on a heating issue that is more important but this is next for me, thanks for sharing. I suspect this is a wear issue, hopefully there is a kit to fix it.

Tying several threads together.

None of the documentation I can find shows this exact view or these parts. Strange, they must all be for 90s or some other variant.

Yeah, I'm trying not to tear to far into it. I'm putting everything back together with this fix and see how long it takes me. May last awhile.

That's the part, looks like snap ring broke on mine. Any idea how involved replacing it is?
This was my very first Disco repair!

You need to remove the selector pin/collar on the right of your picture. Take the next layer off the t-case (next four bolts you can see). I think you can access everything from there. The rod that holds the bush slides out so you can install the bush on a workbench.

I recall that it was tricky to get the ball and bush into location at the same time, but eventually got it together.

Perfect, thanks man, I still have the console off so I'll go ahead and get it done.

Good deal. When you get it free it up really good. The part that seems to freeze up first is the little end cap that gets held to the body of the shifter with screws. take the screws out and work that plate off the shaft. Clean up the pieces up with emery cloth and grease the shit out of it. It's kind of trial and error to adjust that collet so the shifter can make its full travel without hitting the console. I rarely shift to low range anymore, but I use the hell out of the center diff lock.

I got the shifter, now I just need the time to do it. Any leads on where I can buy some of that?
