Hello,

I have a 2003 Discovery II and I've noticed a little oil leaking on the bottom of the transfer gear box lower plate, around the mounting bolts. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this particular gasket has a tendency to leak? Also, I'm unsure of how to change the transfer gear oil.

With regards to the oil, I contacted a rep from Royal Purple and they sent me this response: Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90 (part #01300, quart bottle) is a fully synthetic GL-5 75W-90 gear oil, so there should not be any issues.

Anyone have any information or suggestions on oil?

Thanks! :patriot:

Down load the Rave CD for your D2. Pretty self explanitory......
One word of caution, make sure that you can remove the filler stud/plug before you remove the stud/plug and drain your t/case.
That gasket does tend to leak when the RTV gasket maker has not been applied correctly or has gotten old.
I'm assuming that you are talking about the inspection plate securing bolts and not the mounting bolts.......;)

In a D1 can you run 75w 90 or does it have to be 80w 90? is there any major difference between the two weights?

its the shaft seal on front d/s I would bet. They are happening on everyone's 03-04 discos right now. That and the intake gasket leaking coolant seems to be the rave right now.
