Transmission Swap

I am ready to swap my transmission because the pump is making a funny noise when cold. I am having a hard time finding a low mileage 4HP22 in Colorado but there is a 4HP24 with 60K on it. I realize I'll have to get a 4.6 rear drive shaft but is there anything else? I am getting a CDL T/Case with transmission out of 04 Disco. Is the electrical plug the same on 4HP22 and 4HP24? Is all the mounting for T/Case Transmission the same, in the same location?

Theyre different transmissions. The 24 is computer controlled and the 22 is not. I dont think its worth the money you will spend to make it work.

The 22 in Disco 2 is computer controlled and Rave states the function of both is identical. I guess I'll have to just buy it and see if I can make it work unless someone on here tells me a good reason not to even try. As far as I know everything on 99-02 is the same as on 03-04 except for the rear drive shaft. Even the oil cooler lines are the same so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I didnt know that there was a 22 that was computer controlled. I was under the impression that they were all hydro and the 24s were computr controlled.

no, d2's and p38's use a computer controlled hp22.

OP, ya, you can swap it, you dont even need* the different driveshafts. the difference is 3cm. (iirc)

and i believe that you wont even need to swap ECM's. get the torque converter though.

FWIW i got a 4hp22 for $300 with less than 100k on it.

unless it is a D1, then you are SOL.

Thanks,

This is exactly what I wanted to know. There are a bunch of HP22s for sale in the U.S. but shipping is like $300 so I want to get one locally and there is nothing with less than 100K miles near Denver right now. Transmission ECU is different for 4.6 trucks but the pin locations are the same. I wonder if the 4.6 ecu has updated software with improved shift maps. All the 4.6 trucks I have driven seem to shift better, or maybe my transmission is just crap.

Just to update everybody, I did install the 4HP24 in my 02 Disco. Everything was plug and play and it is shifting great. I am using my original transmission ECU.
