trick to replacing heated windscreen relay?

Update: I went looking for the oil pressure switch and found this:
56033

The lighting and photo are not great, but what I think I see here is the mechanical oil pressure gauge coming out of the oil pump housing where the oil pressure switch should go (the skinny black hose coming out at 10:00 between the two hard pipes). Hanging in space with nowhere to connect is the female end of the wiring that should plug onto the spade connector of the switch. It's camouflaged by grime and oil, but you can see it beneath the lower of the two hard pipes.

At this point I suppose the next steps are to order a new oil pressure switch, install it, connect the plug, and test the windscreen again with engine running.

How much oil should I expect to come out of that hole when I unscrew the mechanical gauge?

No, oil light on dash is dark all the time. By electrical sensor, do you mean the pressure switch? In other words, the location of the mechanical gauge is not where the pressure switch threads in? In comparing my photo to the diagram from RAVE posted earlier in the thread it's hard to tell the difference. It would be handy to have both a functioning switch and a pressure gauge.

Your pic shows where my pressure switch is located. Great question on how much oil will come out when you remove what is there. And hopefully the threads are ok when you remove it. Might be easier to drain the oil and do an early change. After going through all this maybe buying the OEM part is a good idea.

Yes was talking about adding an electrical pressure switch. You can keep the mechanical switch where it is and add the electrical in the port that is for testing the oil pressure. Then you will have both the idiot & your pressure gauge. I'll get a pic of my oil pump later.

What color is the wire hanging in space?

Why? In all the V8 Rover engines owned over the years never had an issue with the OEM electrical part.

Checked the wire color. It's brown and white. Looking forward to seeing photos of the secondary port. The idea of having a heated windshield and a mechanical oil pressure gauge is intriguing.

I misspoke in an earlier.... I installed the VDO sender in the original port and the warning light sensor in the extra port (not sure what it's for but it's been working). The port for testing pressure is the lower bolt in the pic.

The setup looks good. Your oil pump appears to be different from mine, I'm not sure I have an additional port where the pressure switch could go. I'll have to take another look, but from a casual comparison of the photos of your truck (post #48) and mine (post #41) they aren't configured the same.

If the choice boils down to oil cooler vs mechanical gauge I'd rather have the oil cooler. Circling back to my earlier question: given the configuration of my oil pump, is the best course of action going to be to replace the mechanical pressure gauge with the oil pressure switch? If there is a different way to approach this to allow for both the oil pressure switch plus the mechanical gauge I'm all ears. Based on what I'm reading and seeing, I think there is not.

perhaps something like this....

or a 'sandwich' adapter between the front cover and oil filter. Depends on how much conviction you have.

I can appreciate that. My concern has always been on the engine cooling side.
Mine too but now I can split time between staring at the temp & the pressure. lol

You will have the extra ports. There is only one oil pump. The adapter plate for the cooler is just sandwiched between the pump & the filter.
