I know of a supercharged one that lasted many years and many tens of thousands miles on a 1995 P38A.

Did(does) that one belong to a guy that worked at LR Marin? If so, that was a sweet setup.

i have a customer that had a stage 2 whatever in his 95 rrc. I believe (i wasn't around for the initial installation) it was a 4.6 that was ported and polished along with headers and chipped. that thing was damn fast. we just took it out and replaced it with an isuzu 4GJ2 diesel. he's saving the engine for another project now.

It seems like the best option so far is to go from the 4.0L to the 4.6L. The turbo deisel is too expensive of a switch and I am not sure CA will allow it. The prices I have been quoted so far for the 4.0 to the 4.6 are $11k to $13K. Turbo deisel would probably be $20K and I don't think it would give me any more speed on the highway, just more low range power. Is that correct?

CA and diesels don't mix well.... '95 and earlier (older) it *can* be done, sort of but not really but it can be, but don't bother in CA. LOL.

Anyway - yes the TDi will not help that much out on the road, if you're after power on the highway as they say "there's no replacement for displacement!"

$11-$14K!!!!!!????? What are they smoking? I suppose that's a NEW motor, which although a good thing... I go second hand with a *quality* rebuild and I bet it can be done for a lot less.

Just my .02

Have you looked at putting a blower on it?
I have a blower from a ford thunder bird super coupe
the ford was a 3.8 v6 and the blower is remotly mounted over a valve cover
then piped into the intake after going through a interecooler.
On a 4.0 it could be mounted over the right side valve cover and move the alt to the empty spot where a distributor would be

I've had great luck with the Eaton/Magnuson blowers and am slowly building another 4.6 for one.

bonnet clearance is an issue however.

I used a Opcon 1.1 Liter supercharger with an Accel Digital Fuel Injection system on a 4.6 I had built for my 95 D1. It has been extremely reliable and makes some great power.

Really ? You would spend that much money to get another 6/10ths of a liter . I have some crap in my garage I would be willing to sell. Its just crap but if you would spend 20large to get a shitty 6/10th of a liter I think your going to love the crap I got.
