How hard is it to replace the V-belts on a 94 D90? I am thinking fairly simple, but can't find any info on the rave or searching the web. Any info/tips appreciated.

honestly, i think i have blanked it from memory. took me and my buddy, who's d90 it was, about 4-5 hours to do it. i was expecting 20 min a belt, tops. bolts were just hard to get to to loosen stuff up and areas were really inaccessible. and without a second person, doubt would ever have gotten it done. course, that was my first time ever doing it, so i could probably get it done in a lot less time now.

oh, and worse part is that none of the manuals give you any tips. the owner's manual actually had the most help, and that was rudimentary.

1: Remove the fan. (HA!) Better have the right wrench or you can just stop right here.

2: Remove the shroud (for clearance). 4 screws on top, then lean it back & reach down to the bottom to pull each side up. If you pull from the top, you'll probably break it.

3: Use a 13mm socket on a 1/4" ratchet to loosen the 2 tensioners on the R side of the engine (L as you lean over the radiator) by reaching under each belt to get to the heads on the bottoms of the clamps. Pull the belts to swing the tensioners up, then work the belts off.

4: Use an 11mm socket to remove the 2 water pump bolts where the alternator tensioner bracket attaches - it's easier than fighting the tensioner. WITHOUT shorting the alt. output lug to the oil filler neck, swing the alt in, remove the belt, & swing it out. You may have to cut several zip-ties to release the harness. Unplug the connector from the ignition module.

5: Use a 13mm open-end wrench to loosen the nut beside the ignition module. Use a 13mm on a ratchet to loosen the adjusting bolt below the PAS pump. Swing the pump in & remove the belt. It will probably be hard to swing because there's another nut you CAN'T get to.

6: Reinstall the alt & PAS belts, and the alt tensioner bracket to the water pump. Use a long prybar VERY CAREFULLY between the timing cover and the PAS bracket (DON'T PRY AGAINST THE PUMP BODY) to tension the belt before tightening the adjuster & the nut by the ignition. Plug the module back in.

7: Reinstall the 2 front belts. Pry GENTLY against the water pump pulley to tension those belts while tightening the clamp bolts on the tensioners.

8: Reinstall the shround & fan.

:D

Can you tell I've done 2 this week?
