water leak in pass kick panel

Hi guys, Just got back from working in Mexico so I haven't been on D-web in a while.

I was driving back from VA today in really heavy rain and my service engine light started to light up for about 2 seconds ever 3 minutes. It has never come on before and I have 125K. Well to make a long story short, when I got home and it stopped raining, I thought I would do the paper clip trick and reset the relay. No problem but, while I had the kick panel off I noticed the kick panel wall that all these relays are mounted to was all wet with water and the pad under the carpet was wet. Also turns out the cruse control relay was wet along with most of the connectors. Dried all the connectors and relays and everything still works ( I was shocked ) and my intermittent cruse control problem seems to fixed. I really can't see where the water originated from. I suspect the windshield but could be from any number of locations on the pass side.
BTW no sun roofs so at least that's one less leak to worry about.

What is the most common leak areas to look into?
Has anyone had a similar leak and how did you fix it.

If I find something obvious, I'll post the remedy.

Thanks in advance,
GG

water leak

Check the post: water on front floor mats on the 2nd page
I have the same issue on the drivers side. I did go to a glass shop and they ruled out the windshield. They said Land Rover windshields sit in such a way water won't go thru?? Their words were save your money and don't have it resealed. Now I took apart some of the molding in front of the windshield and pumped some silicone in there. Just waiting the rain to come to see if I got it.
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Brian

Were you using the air conditioner, or had it been used in the last couple days? I have heard of the A/C drain hoses getting plugged and causing water in the passenger side floor. Not sure where the water actually comes into the vehicle when the hoses are plugged, but may be something to check since it is probably easily fixed.

Thanks for the replies, No I haven?t used the AC today and I did clean out the AC drain nipples a few weeks ago preparing for the summer. I haven?t had time to pull the molding off and get a good look around but, something tells me it?s where the fire wall meets the door post.

Thanks anyhow.

What year is your landrover.

I had the same problem with my 94. On the earlier years the air intake for the AC/ventalation was badly designed. In heavy rain water would go under the plastic cowl at the bottom of the windscreen and into the air intake.

You can test by lifting the hood and then using a hose to wet the windscreen - look at the air intake to see if water goes in.

There is a fix for this that you can buy off landrover. I just made an aluminium plate to go over the intake and sealed the back section of it. Now I have a dry floor, even when it rains - sometime the simple things are nice.

I have also had the AC water nipples fill with mud - the result is water coming out of the heater vents on both driver and passenger side - you can actually see it when the AC is on.

Good luck

I have a 94 and have had that same problem on the drivers side for a while.
Dudleyh--can you take a picture of the plate you made to go over the air intake? I have not done the test you described but I have resealed almost everything. I think you are describing my problem. Thanks
