Well I guess this is snag #3 in the 4.6 rebuild.

So I’d this how the new timing chain sets look for a 4.6 Bosch motor? I was ready to install the cam and finish the motor today. Opened the box with the timing kit and this is what was in there. It looks cast but not finished. The chain doesn’t sit in all the teeth the same on the cam sprocket and the crank sprocket hole is .004 larger than the one I removed. It literally is loose on the key. I can’t get the cam sprocket to fit on the end of the crank. I paid $85 so I wasn’t trying to go cheap. Ugh. So frustrating. Does anyone have a line on where I can get a better one. Maybe I just need to go genuine for this? Thanks for any input.

Dealer genuine is the best for this. Ran into the same issue on my cam install. Hopefully Rover still has quality gears. Did mine probably 7 years ago and at the time the crank gear was fine aftermarket but the cam gear wouldn't even sit flush on the cam. The finish of the dealer cam gear was perfect.
