I'm going to be replacing the gaskets where the exhaust manifold and y-pipe join. (I can feel and exhaust leak there). Someone was in there previously "playing", and used a bolt to put it back together, so I'll be putting in new studs.

What tap do I need to chase the threads

Also, what tap for the studs for y-pipe to muffler, and muffler to exhaust? (I need to fix the exhaust pipe as well, and planning for a broken stud...)

Thanks,

matt

8*1.25 for the manifolds.

As for the Y-pipe to muffler, there is almost no chance that you will be able to separate those components without using destructive methods.

The studs have splined heads making them nearly impossible to remove. Resist the urge to use a hammer and punch to remove them as you will break up the material in the catalysts. A torch or plasma is the only way to go here.
