I think that lockers are part of the supply chain issues also. I just got my ARB for the Salisbury in December. I ordered it last March. To get what you decide on you will have to search high and low and be ready to purchase it right when you find it. Nearly ordered one from the UK as I found one, and only one there but would have paid an extra 3hun.

From what I understand, the Detroit Locker for the Land Rover axle was discontinued well before Covid. I blew up one along with both rear shafts in my wife’s D1 back in 2018 and couldn’t get a replacement.

Every trail ride I have been on with people who have ARBs, someone has had an issue. Probably not a design flaw, just an installation issue. I sold the ARB I had for my 110 and replaced it with a Detroit

Ive been running Ashcroft air lockers for about 5yrs now with zero issues. The ARB and Ashcroft are designed differently. The O-ring on the collar goes bad on the ARBs.

The issue I'm afraid of having is the seals leaking internally and air pushing diff fluid out the air line. I think once its locked and working it's pretty bullet proof.

Still pondering where to mount the pump. Not a fan of the noise in the truck, but thinking one of the boxes in the back needs to go to mount there. I used a battery box in my RRC years ago and that helped.

I’ve seen a few with seals in the locker leaking and when they leak, air just leaks into the housing and out the breather. I think it’s a common problem with the older ones

This was my setup in my 1996 D1. Sure it sounded like a mini compressor was running when the locker was activated but it only ran for 10 seconds or so every now & then. Never had a problem with the ARB.

I got the F/R 4.11's and ARB's from Bill at GBR. Front diff he built up with thrust bolt and all, rear is Salisbury so that is on me. ARB is the only air locker for the Salisbury, so not much choice there. I was originally asking for an Ashcroft for the front because of ARB problems listed here, but he said that ARB has corrected those issues and improved on the weaknesses and it has made it a much better locker, so I took his word for it.

I suppose I will find out in a year or so when I finish my truck.

I have a rookie question - does adding lockers cause problems with the traction control system? I know that it takes wheel spin to actuate the traction control, so with not wheel spin, there shouldn't be any issues. But somehow I think this might be naive of me...

For context, I am buying a 2004 Discovery 2 and plan to install Ashlockers on it.

Thank you for your help!

Depending which compressor. The smaller ARB should fit in the cargo boxes just fine. It’s only about 7” x 7” x 3”. And the noise means you’re about to have fun.

I agree. I have one of these mounted under the seat in my Defender to run my Ash Lockers. It runs for just a few seconds when I engage the lockers and then quiet again. I kinda like the sound as it means I am about to do something fun!

I wouldn't want to hear it running all the time for airing up tires or something - but I use a CO2 tank for that job.

I ditched my CO2 tank for a portable compressor. CO2 was the fastest, but I got tired of refills and that bitch is heavy.

My son’s set up on a 99 D2. It’s a bit on the noisy side tho.
