You may well be right but you have seen what's going on in the used car market right? Prices were depressed and then Hertz declared bankruptcy and dumped a shit ton more cars into the mix, along with a lot of the other rental agencies. That can only drive down the cost of all vehicles across the board.
I understand, someone who is going to buy a Land Rover isn't normally going to go the used car route. But these aren't normal times, and if I'm not mistaken rental companies do offer high end vehicles.
We purchased our Discovery in 02 I think. Not long after it made the first of many trips to LR of Louisville on the back of a flatbed wrecker. One of the times I went to pick it up there was a beautiful green Defender on the showroom floor. I looked it over while waiting for the Disco, thought about it on the way home. Once there I told the wife I was going to go back and buy it and sell the Jeep. By the time I got home from work the next day I had come to the conclusion I wasn't going to pull the trigger. My son had started racing MX and I needed a cargo trailer to carry the bike and tools and shit. Ended up selling the Jeep and that was that. Still think about that truck though.
So I guess if I had a wish it would be Tata having to sell off JLR and the next owners taking LR back to their roots.
Seems Jeep has staked its claim to being the successor to the Defender though.
All auto manufacturers are going to take a hit during this. I could get the lower end of the LR line being more impacted than the top end. That bartender or waitress at the nice restaurant who’s been out of work the past few weeks isn’t able to over extend themselves to lease a Disco Sport anymore
I've owned two Jeeps and one Disco. I loved driving the Disco but hated owning it. The Jeeps gave me little to no problems. The most trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned was a Suzuki Samurai. Drove the shit out of it for 150k with zero problems.
Want to buy another Samurai? I’ve got one I just brought back from Cali where it had lived its entire life. It’s in Virginia now. As rust free as you’ll find that has over 200k on it. Starts and drives every time. Recently did an 800 mile road trip with no issues.
I had a TJ for about five years with no issues, but that is not why people by LR. I suspect someone will buy them at a discount. Too much to much of an image not to attract a buyer
