Windshield wipers

The windshield wiper intermittent setting doesn't work in my 90 RRC. Also, they will stay in place wherever I they are when I turn them off instead of going back down. Any ideas???

just a guess. . .

But I'd start with the switch. This is one of the few problems I haven't had on my 89 RRC, but that's where I would start. Gotta love electrical issues. I hope someone with more knowledge can provide better guidance. Good luck.

My wipers have a mind of their own as well. When I start the vehicle once in a while they'll do one pass and sometimes they'll stay on on the intermittent setting. If I move the lever down to turn on the intermittent setting and let them do one more pass and then turn them off they'll usually stay off.

Another anomaly is when I turn on or off the air conditioning, sometimes I'll get the one pass of the wipers.

I had these 2 same problems, 6 years ago on my 1995 Range Rover.

1. The relay (Siemens, not Lucas) for the intermittent function was working irratically. I replaced the relay, and that cured the intermittent function. This is the easy fix. No problem since.

2. The contact and contact plate inside the wiper motor were slightly pitted, and the wipers would not park in the off position. I had to remove the hood and the decker panel to remove the wiper motor from the firewall. I drilled out the rivets, in order to get to the contact and contact plate. I polished the contact and contact plate to eliminate the pitting. I packed the contact and contact plate with dielectric grease, reassembled the wiper motor, and pop-riveted the wiper motor together. I reassembled the wiper motor to the firewall, the decker panel, and the hood. This is the hard fix. No problem since.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll try both things (starting with the relay!)

Ooooold thread here, but my 95 LWB's wipers are possessed. They do not function on "intermittent", work fine on low/high, but do not "park" (they just stop anywhere along their arc). Does the info above hold true that I should proceed in the following order?

1. Stalk/switch
2. Relay
3. Wiper Motor Park switch

The bonnet and decker panel look like a PITA, so I may just look for a replacement motor to have while it's all apart.
