I am trying to wire some Hella lights using the Hella wiring harness and a land rover fog light switch. We wired it up but you have to hold the land rover switch down and hold it down for it to work. We tried the wind sheild wiper switch and it worked perfectly. What are we doing wrong? Do we ned the red wire connected to something?LR Switch.jpg

I did this a few months ago, sounds like the wrong switch or bad switch. Every wire goes to something if you want it to light up when the rest of the switches light up. Make sure you ground it well.

Ah, that's your issue then. In my D1 I wired my aux lights to an extra fog light switch and inserted the switch in the blank spot in the same bank that contains the front fog lights and cruise control switches. I have it set up so the aux lights are independent of all other lights. I wanted to be able to use the main beams, the fog lights, and the aux floodlights in any permutation. The tradeoffs are that (1) I now have two identical fog light switches, but I know which is which, and (2) the aux lights will come on no matter what else is happening, so it's easier to drain the battery if you aren't paying attention. Fortunately I only use the aux lights when appropriate (i.e. in the dark on the trail or forest roads), so it is obvious if I haven't turned them off.

Buy a spare front fog switch from Will Tillery or one of the parts vendors here and wire your Hellas to it. I'm assuming your Rover's interior has these features, as you don't list what vehicle this is for. Do a search on the Discovery tech forum, there is a thread within the past year on how to do this. It includes photos.

Search is your friend: https://discoweb.org/index.php?thre...hts-to-independent-switch.97169/#post-1081826

See the wiring diagram in the thread. Use the relay so that you don't need heavy gauge wire to/from the binnacle switch. If you don't install/use the relay, all that current is going to be going through those small wires. That equals ⚡ and 🔥

Another good thread for info: https://discoweb.org/index.php?threads/3x-hella-4000s-wiring-diagram.44802/page-2 https://discoweb.org/index.php?threads/3x-hella-4000s-wiring-diagram.44802/page-2

It does not "clicK' like the windshield switch does.
Yeah, I believe your issue is that the switch isnt latching.
So its acting more like a button and only completing the circuit when you hold it down.
Not latching on/off.

I have the correct switch (and wiring), I can ship it just shoot me a PM.
