Worn out shocks ?

I am trying to determine if the shocks on our 2000 D2 are toast. Any way to tell ? The reason I ask is when I am alone in the car, it rides Ok, and corners OK. The minute you put 3 people in it, bumps that were absorbed before (with one person) are now launching people to the roof, it corners with a lot more lean, and makes more racket in the rear as well... Could it be that the shocks are so bad that with any more weight on them they stop dampening anything ? Can this be checked or is it an eyeball thing... How long do they normally last (mostly road use before we bought it, more off road now)... The car's got 50K miles !

At 50k on the original shocks it is time to change them. On a larger heavier vehicle like the Disco I wouldn't recommend more than 30k on original shocks maybe 50k on upgraded ones, but that is my opinion.

Mine were almost shot at 20k miles. The stock shocks don't hold up very well.

Get your truck bouncing pretty good and then stop applying the force. If your truck keeps bouncing then the shocks are shot. If it stops quickly then they're probably still fine.

The shocks don't do a whole lot for your lean, that's mainly your springs. Do you have sway bars installed still? Do you have ACE? What do you mean by racket in the rear?

Shock Replacement

Does anyone have a good procedure on changing shocks. I am planning on changing mine soon and need to know step by step how this goes. I have the Haynes manual and that's gotten me through a lot but the explanation they have on the shocks is a bit lacking!!!!! Thanks
