Hi
My name is Josh and I’m new to the Land Rover world.
Happy New Year everyone!

I have been a Toyota nut all of my life and been doing all of my own mechanical repairs for the past 25 years.

I purchased a Disco 1 and love the vehicle and I’m now a Landy disciple.

So here it goes: The Auto Transmission packed it in and I asked a mechanic to replace the transmission as I felt it was better to let a Land Rover Mechanic do the work as I have limited experience with vehicles other than Toyota.

I drove the vehicle for 100km after the change of trans,it was working beautifully then it shit it self.It jumped from 4th to 1 st and then lost all ability to engage any gear including reverse.
(I think it overheated due to excess transmission fluid)
I checked the transmission fluid dip once the engine was cold in park and ran for 4 minutes to circulate fluid and have way to much fluid in the transmission for eg 120mm on the dipstick and the highest level is app 35mm so 85 mm above full.
I’m thinking the transmission was not drained properly before install or airlock circulation and rushed install.
As far as I can tell ,these zf4ph22 are a hydrolic set up and don’t have solinoids that would restrict flow of fluid that could give faulty indicators on filling procedures
I would appreciate any important that would help
Regards J

So you have a 300TDi '97 Disco, and use metric. Oi! Brit? ANZAC? Netherlands?
No 300 TDi's in the N.A. market, well very rare and imported only, Metric is not in common usage.

Too bad that shop displayed incompetence in providing a proper tranny, for you and their bank balance.
