Will, sorry I didn't see your message until Sun night or I would have gone with you. I didn't do anything all weekend so I would've liked the distraction. Do you know if SOLAROS is still planning a trip to Rich Mountain on Nov 16th? I'm planning on coming to Wed's meeting @ Tony's. Are you planning to be there?

Ronnie,

I will be there tonight. You probably have already left for the meeting though. I hope we are still going to Rich Mtn in November. For some reason I was thinking that there was a trail ride this weekend. If not I would not mind getting one together.

Robb & Will, it was good to see the two of you again (and everyone else too for that matter, but I think you two are the only ones who hit the boards on a somewhat regular basis...) The Nov/Rich Mtn ride is scheduled for the Sat of the Alabama/Auburn game (which I have tickets to) so I won't be able to make it. If others can't make it that weekend and would like to go the weekend before, I believe it's the 16th, let me know and I'll drive up...

Between working as an admissions advisor/recruiter, my girlfriend, and attending ballgames with my dad, Fall is a very busy time for me. I look forward to eventually making it out on the trails with you guys though.

Ronnie,

Rich Mountain has become a difficult trail. I did it stock a few months ago and this was the result. I hit a tree in the front right corner. I bought a new light and buffed out the damage and was okay. I only needed winching once. It is mostly rock crawling and v-ditches. On the back end of the mountain are two big mud holes that made the truck look muddy. On a few of the tougher areas there are go arounds.

I might be up for it the weekend before. Either that or we could try finding something in Talladega. Jack Walter said Rangers had pointed him where to go on a map so I want to get that info from him and explore.

i would be up for it the week before as well...i wont be in town that weekend of the solaros ride, so i want to gead up there...

Robb, it has gotten even harder. I ran it in july and hten this past weekend, and on the tougher spots had a lot of trouble, so there will be definite winching, but the go arounds are all still there, and are easy.

Robb & Will,

As long as it hasn't become too hard I'm up for it that weekend. Like I told Robb at the meeting, mine is still stock even down to the Michelins. The only things I have done is remove the airdam, trim the endcaps, and added JATE rings on the front. I'll remove the running boards before that weekend.

I can probably get my buddy that lives in Atl to ride along with me. I'll also drop an e-mail to David Trammel here in Montg. He is also a member of SOLAROS and might like to come. We went riding once in Talladega NF.

How long will it take to get to Rich Mountain from Atl and then complete the trail? What time do you guys normally leave? I normally work Friday nights at a bar here in town so Sunday would work better for me but I can get off pretty easily as long as I have about a weeks notice if everyone would rather go Saturday.

I'd like to see you guys go through the tougher spots to see what these things are capable of and I'll try the 'easy go-rounds'.

I thought I might bump this up to the top. Robb and I have been e-mailing back and forth about possibly going the 16th or 17th but I thought some others on the board might have an interest as well. If and when I have more info I'll let you know. If others are interested, pipe up. This might be a good recruiting tool for SOLAROS. I'll definitely need someone who has run it a couple of times to follow to the trail as I have never been to north GA/Rich Mountain before.

A group of us from Greenville,SC ran the trail last weekend. It is a verrrry long trail, so allow the whole day to complete it. There are several pretty tough sections on the way up if you enter from the quarry side. At the top there are a lot of deep water mud holes, and the ride down is long, but tame enough. We had 4 mostly stock RRC's and a highly modified Disco. We only took one go-around, after our fearless leader in the Disco squashed a door getting out of a deep v ditch. Have Fun.

Robert, the SOLAROS date has been changed from the website. According to their newsletter, they are now going on the next weekend, Sat the 23rd. A few of us can't make it that weekend so we might go either Sat, the 16th or Sun, the 17th. My vote is for Sun but I should be able to make either day.

And some of us work on Friday nights as well... I won't get off until 2am. If I hop straight in the Disco and drive to Atlanta, it would be close to 6am (with the time change) before I got there. But if Sat is it, then I may just see about getting off Fri night and driving up then so I can get a good nights sleep.

If you are still looking for people to join you, a friend and I would like to come along. He may bring his RRC but other wise it would be us in a D1. I do not have a great deal of experience, I just move up from a IIA but gotta give it go sometime.
We would be coming from Savannah, GA and have never been up there. As much info about time and place, general directions ect. would be great.

Ok, I can't do Sunday, so it will have to be Saturday. I know Will wants to go, who all is still up for Saturday? I need to make sure that someone who has run the trail is there since i've never been. Peace.. RS

Well, I can't do Saturday. There is no way I can realistically get to Atlanta before 1:00 pm eastern. I will be in Atlanta anyway for the weekend so if Will or anyone else that has been there before wants to lead I am definitely going to be in town. My cell number is 334-546-5495. As I said, I'll be in Atlanta Saturday afternoon through early Monday evening.

For anyone still following this thread, I don't know anything about the Saturday trip but Robert Ross and I will be going on Sunday. Neither of us have been to Rich Mountain before but the more the merrier. We will be meeting at 8 am Sunday morning at Houston's. This is located off the Windy Hill exit off I75. Just turn right at the top of the exit and you'll eventually run right into it at the first major intersection.

I got an email from Robb Sundmaker about the Saturday ride. It looks like it's going to be a muddy one huh? Anyhow,"We will meet at 9 AM at the McDonalds in Ellijay on Highway 515/Highway 5. There is also a Burger King and BP at this corner." I'll be there, hope to see some of you other DWEB folks there too.. Later.. Robert Sublett
