John V.: There will no doubt be another weekend scheduled soon. If not Paragon, then somewhere in the Pa/NJ/NY quadrant. Where are you located?

John C.: Paragon for you this weekend? We're gonna try to schedule a Ringwood trip too. Glenn is spearheading that.

Joe D. Where in Maryland are you Joe?

Im in central jersey, 30 min north of the pine barrens.

Is ringwood open again? last time i had no luck with police presence, and the jackson whites who own the land.

Paragon sounds fun, but i would like to run ringwood with the rover too. Last time i was in a locked toyota, like to see how the rover does

If you guys do something along the NY/NJ border please let me know. I'd love to check out a few new trails. Well, I guess they're all new to me! I was a passenger last May on the Foundation Trail ride with WCRC. It's too bad that trail has been shut down. I'd have loved to have taken my Range Rover on it. Also, if any of you know of a trail that's still open in CT please email me privately. I was just up in western MA last weekend and I have to confess, this stuff's addictive.

It looks like our trip to Paragon Sunday is falling by the wayside. If Ringwood is open, I'm game for that. Glenn?

John V. so you are around Trenton/Princeton area I gather? Look for an email from me in a few.

Paul, do you know Norman from WCRC? If so, say Hi for me!

The only person from the WCRC I know is Ed Messenger. I won one of his auctions on eBay. I went to a meeting once and after waiting almost an hour no one showed so I left the dealership. I tried contacting the officers but never got a reply. I did get a really nice window sticker though.

Stormin' Norman, great guy, funny guy....

Last time I went to a club meeting they took my fifty bucks and closed doors. I didn't even get a sticker. BTW, it wasn't the WCRC, it was NYLRC.

John,
You were at the Foundation Trail back in May weren't you? In fact, you posted the pictures here on DiscoWeb? I rode with Jim Young in the green RRC. I didn't feel right coming to club event without being a member and joined a few weeks later at British By The Sea. Given my experience with WCRC I'll think twice before I hand over any money to a "club." I do like NEOW. It's not a club as much as a website devoted to bringing responsible wheelers together. RJ, a regular on the NEOW site, can be thanked for getting the Rover Summit off the ground and it was an event to remember. On another note, I remember you posted here on the DiscoWeb trying to find out about a certain hill in CT. Did you locate the trail?

Where do people go off-roading in Ringwood? Do you brave souls venture into the mine area (jackson whites)? Anybody know anything about area 51? I live in Ringwood.

Met Norman and his lovely wife twice, once in the Barrons and once at Paragon....really wonderful folks. I think Norman is the treasurer of WCRC.

Yes, he is one of the officers that I emailed in an effort to get some feedback about what exactly the club was planning for the future and to offer my help. I got no reply. I got no reply from Ed Messenger when I spoke with him in person about club off-road events and when I emailed him nor did I get a response from Michael Ladden the former president. Just like John C., I spent good money for a window sticker celebrating my membership in a club that goes to parades and eats Afghani food.

The last time i was in Ringwood , the jackson whites wouldnt let us pass. They literally blocked the trail with their quads.

John Vigg, who are the Jackson Whites?

Frank, the trail I've done with LIOR runs along the gas lines. We entered thru Stag Hill Road. Is this the same trial as Area 51? http://www.4x44u.com/pub/k2/am4x44u/trails/RockinNJ/

Aren't the Jackson Whites that survivelist/ecoterrorist group?

I used to live in Ramsey, NJ for a few years and if I recall correctly, Jackson's Whites are the decendants of a Union officer (Jackson) and freed female slaves he brought back with him after the Civil War. Jackson's Whites seemed to have settled along the NY/NJ border from Ringwood through to Mahwah. They are the product of generations of inbreeding, tend to keep to themselves and are wary of outsiders. I could be wrong about the specifics but I think you get the picture.

I did some seraches in Yahoo...came up with these items:

From the Slider Encyclopedia:
Jackson Whites
name applied to a group of people of mixed descent (African, European, and Native American) living in the Ramapo Mts. along the New Jersey-New York state line. The origins of these people have for years been surrounded by myth and legend, e.g., that they are descended from a mixture of the Tuscarora, Hessian deserters, women kidnapped in England by a man named Jackson, and runaway slaves. Recent research suggests that the origin of these people is to be found among remnants of the Algonquin, early white settlers (mainly British and Dutch), and free, landholding blacks who pioneered the Hackensack River valley before migrating to the Ramapo Mts. in the early 19th cent. The term Jackson Whites probably developed as a result of the continued joint reference to the mountain people as Jacks (an 18th-century term for freed slaves or blacks in general) and Whites, i.e., it became Jackson Whites by elision.

There are tons more articles, references, etc. Really very fascinating!

Yeah, I found the same info. But I also found lots of pics taken by folks visiting the area with small children. How bad can it be?

I also read that they had some italian in them so I guess next time I go there I should bring some prosciutto and provolone... :)

Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure of where Paragon is in PA but I have a feeling it might be too far away. I'm up in CT about 20 miles north of Danbury (I-84).

does anybody know if the pipeline trail off stag hill road is legal or if it is just one of those places that no one was ever caught?

second, if anyone is every planning a trip to the Ringwood area I would be interested in going if it is a weekend - DII with OME

Let's see Paul, if you took I84 west to Scranton and then I81 south to Hazelton...

YIKES! My mapping program tells me thats 175 miles from Danbury, plus your 20! I would never have guessed that! Thats a good 2.5 hours! (I drive too fast I know.)

Ringwood is 75 miles from you.

Ringwood is more like it. Last week my wife and I drove a little under 100 miles to do the Rover/Jeep Summit. That took a bit over two hours because it was all country roads. Anyway, have a great time this weekend, I'm sure we'll hook up soon enough.

I can be paged at (877) 432-7518 or email me.
