Charleston, SC area trails or nearby. Anyone know of any?

If you find any, let me know. I live in Savannah and have not found anything closer than north of Atlanta or in north FL.

I also live in Charleston and have been searching for some place to go. There is a small undeveloped area behind the Wal-Mart on James Island that is mostly used by dirt bikers, but is good for a little entertainment. It's especially fun after a real good rain. The mud and huge puddles are rain water and not salt water. And believe it or not, there is actually a hill back there. The area is not large, but is good for some practice.

If you're interested in going some afternoon or evening, drop me a line. During the week the evenings are not very busy there, but on the weekends, the dirt bikers outnumber the mosquitos.

Hank & Chris,
I went to college in Charleston and the best place I found was to go out to Francis Marion (up 17 about 20 miles) and mess around out there. There are quite a few trails, mostly mud, but a little bit of a workout at times. Otherwise you need to head west-where you can certainly find more to do as you get past Columbia and head into the foothills.
Hope that helps.
regards-
Ray

Lester, thanks for the tip on the forest. Do you know of any specific spots? Francis Marion is pretty big and I know that there are some places that trucks aren't allowed. Are you still in the area?

On another note, I'm heading up to the Lake Jocassee area camping the 4th of July weekend. Does anyone know of any place to go wheeling up there?
