I've been curious about a trip to the Big Bend. Does anyone have any experience with trails, camps, etc.? So far, I've been able to get some trail descriptions from the Big Bend website, but haven't talked to anyone with first-hand experience. |

You can go down the canyons by horse back or hike from what my brother in law says. I am going to take the trip when it warms up a bit. |

Big Bend has a few good backpacking trails and some not-so-tough four wheel drvie trails. I went on a trip with my brother several years ago. While our hike was only a few miles up the mountain to the camping area, one guy hiked 15 miles through the desert; but, he ended up dehydrated. Take lots of water and drink often. The four wheel drive trails are good if you want to see a lot of the park. Something we didn't try was rafting on the Rio Grande. The other area that might interest you is to go to the Big Bend Ranch. The ranch is owned by the State. Sorry, no first hand knowledge. DougC |
