Anyone know what the conditions are like in the George Washington National forest now? I was thinking of going offroading this weekend (01/11/2003).

This past weekend there was about 2-3 inches of snow.

Are conditions alright for offroading?

I had a great time offroading this weekend. One thing I noticed were trails that were opened in the summer were closed this weekend. Are these trails just closed for the winter or are they closed for good. I also saw a sign on part of Second Mt that said NO ATVs. Are off highway vehicles allowed on these trails?

Depends on the trails. There are some sections of trails that I've noticed have been closed. There is a new park manager from my understanding and he's not very OHV friendly. Problem is the more trails get closed the more the existing trails will get used and abused.

There are some sections of Kepharts (sp?) Run that have been closed due to fallen trees that I would like to see open but I don't have time to join the OCC to do any trail maint.

Dear Mr. Oliveira,
Where is Kepharts trail at? I tryed it on the delorme Top atlas but I could not find it. Do you know of any other good trails back there? So far the ones that I have been on are Dictum, Second Mt, other forest roads to the north and east of forest road 72. Thank you for your help.

Kephart is a little farther down 33 from Dictum.

I'm going to try and go the weekend of the 25th if anyone is interested. Still not firm but I'll post here to see if anyone else wants to play. I hope we get some snow. :)

I'm thinking of doing the top spurs of Kephart and maybe Old Dry Run again. I want to see the top forks of Kephart to get a better idea of where they go and maybe push to open them back up since they were once used. (I can try can't I?)
