Forgive my ignorance since I haven't spent much time in NJ (well, actualy none but I will be there this summer), but I was looking through the trails photo gallery and notice a ton of pictures for the Pine Barrens.

Of course I've heard much talk about them, but a picture being 1000 words I thought I'd take a look. I just want to be sure I understand what it's like out there.

My take is the Barrens are a bunch of mud holes with an open playground area on one end? Is this about right? It looks like most of the trails simply go through 'pond' after pond, where the biggest challenge is keeping your truck from drowning. The pictures, on average, don't really show a lot of "travel", but more flexing around playing in sand.

I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's like out there since I'm clearly ignorant of the East Coast (except for Manheim, PA).

thanks

Thanks exactly right Peter... bunch of mudholes...

If you really want to do some wheelin' (rocks and mud) you need to head over to upstate NY.

Let me know when you're in the area and I'll organize a trail run 70 miles north of the George Wasington Bridge.

Unfortunately, the time I will be in NJ will be a short jumpin, jumpout for a wedding in June.

Some summer we have plans to drive across to PA, and then I would be willing.

Thanks Dean, I saw it when you originally posted. That's mostly what lead me to my conclusion it was one pond after another.

Hey 'tis a good way to wash the salt off the underneath:) And there's plenty more Camel-style tracks out there, and much of it is legal state-park (at least most of where I've been).

If you're ever over here and want a day trip let me know (or just post up here something) and you'll get a good day.
