Hey Guys,
I was just wondering about these trails that you guys are running up at Ringwood,NJ. I mountain bike up there very frequently and I have never came across a 4x4 before only ATVs and dirtbikes. If the 4x4 trails aer anything like the mountain bike trails it must be rocky and technical. Are these trails legal to wheel on? It would be GREAT to not have to drive 2 hrs to wheel in the Pine Barrens for a change. Thanks for the info!

I bet you are biking in the State Forest area? We offroad outside the park for obvious reasons....

Hmmm.....thats where we go!! Is that stripped-down and abused red pickup truck still on the hillside? It was blocking the trail the day we were there. We saw 4-5 other offroaders there in early december when I was there.

Rans, the truck is gone. The trail was very slippery the last time we went. I think I'll be heading up to Wurtsboro this Sunday (3/23). I'm not sure yet, I'm still in Nashville and haven't gotten permission from the wife and kids yet.. :-)

Peter, the trails were closed for a while because of quads and mountain bikers tearing up the place but the police have backed off... Some sections of the trail are pretty techincal and there is one unpassable mud hole..

John C.

PS: just kiddin' about the mountain bikers, it was the quads that were causing problems..

The rangers have actually threatened to close the Hiking/Biking trails because of people shuttling the mountain ( On downhill bikes ) and cutting their own trails. I am kinda surprised that they dont mind 4x4s using the fireroads. Please let me know the next time you guys head up there I would be very interested in tagging along. I am currently running a 98 Montero Sport with 31s and a rear locker.....you think I can jive?

Sure you can join us, I'll keep you posted on our next trip to Ringwood. Where are you located? I'm in Tappan, NY.

I live in Ringwood, and from the pictures i've seen it looks like the trails you guys run are all in Mahwah actually. Where do you guys enter the woods - Staghill? I'm 18 and take my dad's DII (OME & BFG AT's) in the woods once and a while and I'd love to tag along sometime with you guys sometime if I don't have school :-(

Wow, it sounds like a lot of folks are local to me. Before discovering some nice mountain bike trails along the Jersey shore, I biked in the Ringwood area all the time. Never ran into a 4x4 on any of the trails I biked on.

Eugene you ever ride the Ramapo Mountain trails? pretty crazy stuff down there....I think the trails these guys are hitting are part of the network that links Ringwood to the Skyline drive trails. I HARDLY see ANYONE on these trails when I ride there. Like I said b4 only ATVs and dirtbikes.

Peter,

I'm not sure I have done the Ramapo Mountain trails. The trails I have been on at Ringwood seem to be beginner/mid-level. Is there a shooting range in that area? I've heard shots the last few times I rode there.

Have you ever ridden the trails at Mt. Snow or Killington? Been going out there the last few years. (Even introduced my best friend to MTB at Mt. Snow...)

Yup i went to Mt Snow this summer....pretty easy trails up there. You have to try Downhill riding at Plattekill major technical steep stuff. I did a race up there a few months ago and it was quite interesting and tons of carnage! But seriously there are "freeride"" lines up at ramapo that will make you check your pants ;)

I'm in the area if anybody's up for runs on Sundays or Tuesdays. I live in Southwestern Connecticut.
