Just wanted to let you guys know that the land owner that owns the land at the entrance to the trail by the Church has decided that they no longer want people on their property. They have put up a gate and no treespassing signs. This means that you no longer will be allowed to access the trail from the lower (Church) side. You will need to enter the trail on the top and run it towards the bottom and then turn around and leave the way that you came. After some talking with the ranger office they say that they are going to wait until April 7th or later when Barney Gant returns to figure out what they are going to do with the trail. Do not go onto the private property as you will cause the trail to get closed ( the entire trail) for good. OCC the club that I go wheeling with often and the group that also adopted this trail in the "adopt-a-trail" program has already contacted the ranger office and offered to construct a by pass around the private land so that people can still access the trail at no cost to the ranger office. Again we will have to wait to see what comes of that in April. So if you run the trail stay out of the creek beds, stay on the trail, and be very careful not to go onto private property. I'm sure that it would only take one or two phone calls of complaint to have the trail shut down for good. We have very little trails as it is so lets not lose another.

I heard that the guy is going to put in a Trout Farm on the property. LOL his water will come right out of the stream next to the property that is dry 6 months out of the year. I think I will buy a big bag of salt to dump in upstream the other 6 months. This trail closing will never fly, it is a right-of-way that runs next to his property. The Virginia 4X4 Assoc. has been contacted about this already and will have it re-opened in a matter of weeks im sure. With all the Rednecks around that area who Bear, Coon, and Deer Hunt the gate will never last, much less the fish in a small pond.

We'll see but, in the mean time it would be good to be extra careful around there. If the ranger wants to close it they can close it and leave it at that. We have offered to re-cut/open the last part of Kephert and they keep giving the club the run around on so it's pretty clear that they don't want that done either.

You mean that FR72 as listed that runs up beside the church is private property? And that the trail that cuts off to the right is private as well? I've never seen any signs out there and there weren't any three weeks ago. Obviously this is something very recent?

I agree we should be careful/respectful at this point, but we're such the minority of people that use that access. That is a main access trail for the ATV guys that go up to Second Mtn/Dictum.

Do you know if Second Mtn is open or closed at the bottom? Seems like last summer it was closed until fall.

The gate just closed this week. It's my understanding that the begining portion of the trail that branches off the road is what is on private property. I haven't been there yet to look first hand for sure though. No, I don't know if they closed the gate to second mountian again but, I'm sure that they will since those land owners don't want us there either.
