I'm going to be in Moab for a mountain bike race the weekend of April 5th and plan to do a little off road driving as well. What trail should I start out on? My off road driving skills are limited so nothing too extreme!

check out this link.

Gemini Bridges trail is a good one, not to hard and with careful driving a non-lifted LR would do fine. Go down hill if you don't trust going up.

I'll look at my guide book at home and get some more ideas for tomorrow. What race are you doing?

Gemini Bridges:
A good trail that can be done in a few hours, and a stock DI should do fine. When you get to the end of the trail you come to two rock bridges that are really cool.

Top of the word:
Another trail that is easily done in a stock DI, and the views at the top are absolutely amazing!

I am sure that there are a bunch more that you would have fun on, but the two listed above are just a few that come to mind, I would recommend that you get the Charles wells book about Moab trails, it will be an important items to have with you and help you plan your trip.

Enjoy

Thanks for the info. The race is the Tour of Canyon Lands. It's the first race in the Mountain States Cup Series in CO, UT and NM. The course goes out Kane Creek road, over Hurrah Pass, hike a bike up 'Jackson Ladder' then dowm Amasa Back.
My D1 has a 2" lift, diff guards, sliders and new bumbers. I just don't have the driving skills to go with it... yet! Gotta start somewhere.

Thats is a fun bike ride, that was the very first ride I did in Moab when I moved to Utah. Jackson ladder is interesting, train buy running with your bike on your shoulder! Hurrah pass is not a bad wheeling trail, you'll go down a great road with lots of views, once on the bottom if you go to Jackson Ladder, you'll either go through deep sand, or find your self going to dead ends up slick rock shelfs. Amasa Back is a hard one, fun to bike, but you should have sliders, lockers , and good driving skills. That will be a fun bike race, just drink lots of water, the climb back up from the bottom of hurah pass and the climb up jackson ladder to the climb on Amasa Back drains you. But the Amasa Back down hill is freeriding big drop heaven.

If you want someone to run some trails with, let me know. I'm to slow and out of shape to race, but I'd be up for some wheeling, I could meet you on the 6th or 5th. I'd go down for the weekend on the 4th and ride on the 5th and wheel the rest for the weekend leave the 6th. I always look for excuses to go to Moab.

Andy, company would be great, I will arrive in Moab Thursday in the evening and be leaving Monday afternoon. I race Sunday so that leaves plenty of time for fun.
Wheeling on the 5th would be best.
