I'm looking for true feedback on the Tellico trails. Are the easys Easy and the hards Hard? Should one expect damage on all trails. I want feedback on all of the trails and not just the hardcore-extreme-I-broke-my-ass-rock-bashing-trash-your-truck-for-not-using-your -brains trails. I've read all of the Tellico sites and such. I'm going this weekend for the first time and I'm not armored well as of yet. Just want to be smart.
Thanks

there is plenty for all levels of play. i would recommend going with someone though, because you could think that you are on an easy trail and then come to some gnarly rock garden with no way to return.

Some are easy; some will guarentee damage for a mildly modified rig. Go to cnc.4x4.org and browse through their Trail Dust writeups on Tellico.

I've done it twice. First time netted me a dented gas tank. Second time I had small dents in the sheet metal about 4' off the ground, plus two near rollovers. Both were not LRs but Pinzgauers. The near rollovers were in a hardcab which has a rollover angle around 36 deg.

Haven't been there in the Mog yet.

Good luck.

Each year they get harder, due to wash-out. The posted rankings are totally inaccurate, so if you go don't believe the signs!

Go to the link I put in the earlier post. There is a trail map with trails and ratings. While a couple of ratings may be out of date (only gotten easier), they are pretty accurate. If you truly have read all the sites, then you have probably gone to
http://www.tellico4x4.com/murphy/trailinfo.htm

The writeup is pretty good. If the trail says hard or hardest, don't take it if you are worried about damage. Any obstacle that actually has a name (Rock Garden, Slick Rock, etc), don't take it if you have no armor and are worried about your rig.

Some of the trails are pretty tame. However, some of them are where hard core folks run. Good luck.

My reference to the rankings being inaccurate refers to the Forest Service rankings. For example, Trail 2 was originally ranked 2 for being one of the easiest. At least that is my understanding. The rankings you get from the websites and variuos write-ups do seem to be pretty accurate.

PS- to the original poster. If you posted this on April 23rd, and were going that weekend, what did you find?

I found nothing. I was going with my club and was to leave that Friday night 25th. Me and my better half spent most of the evening in the laundry room and bathroom hiding from the tornados and/or servere weather here in Atlanta. I75 was tied up and traffic as horrible. We chose to wait for the next ride. I was looking for opinions. My truck is stock and has some armor but it is the daily driver and I cannot afford to destroy it. Some people had stated that they had run it in stock trucks but I'd heard MORE stating that you WILL f your truck up a little. I was looking for honest opinions and not the "hell yea" attitude about trail riding. I got some good feedback.
thanks all.

Discretion is the better part of valor. I think just about any trip to Tellico where you test your truck a bit will result in a dent or two. And if you head down the wrong trail, it can get pretty ugly.
Glad you survived the weather.

My vehicle is pretty much stock (96)I was just up there in February when there was snow on the ground. For the most part, the easy trails were in fact easy, but there were one or 2 places where I was glad I had a friend to pull me out. I actually only got stuck once, but there were 2 obstacles i needed someone to "spot" me thru. Most "obstacles" I think I would have cleared without incident, but since my tires were aired down to "20" and I pretty much have stock tires ( michelin cross terrains - which by the way - did SUPERIOR in the snow), i was closer to the ground. I crunched some plastic (nothing noticable) and had a few scrapes. I'd take a friend, stay away from the really muddy places and have a GREAT time.

Gary, what trail numbers did you run in your stock truck? Just curious. Just got back from there, and my trail report certainly doesn't sound like yours!
