Rover owner seeks other Rover owners for George Washington National Forest trail run the weekend after Memorial Day.

I'm looking to get my truck out to GWNF for the first time and was hoping that there might be a group interested in going one day that weekend. If so, hopefully you'd be interested in showing a newb the ropes and wouldn't feel like you were being slowed down.

keith.
p.s. i'm set with recovery points and gear

I can probably go as well. Which ever day works for you guys. Let me know. Maybe we can run Dry River and then see where else we want to go. Maybe Kephart. Old long run now has a locked gate near the church end of it so if you want to run that we would have to start from the top and go down to the gate and then turn around and go back up.

Glad to hear some others are interested!!

Since I've never been out there before, I'll leave it to the veterans to decide which trail(s) is good for a newb/stocker and a good meeting point. If everyone's available on Saturday, let's shoot for that. Sound good?

Keith, where will you be coming from? Are you up for camping and doing trails Sat. and Sun? I dont know for sure yet, but I should be able to get out at least one of those two days.

For a stock truck you should not have a problem finding trails for you. We have had a lot of rain so the water is up a little bit, so some trail may not be accesable for a stocker, but there are plenty of trails to choose from.

I'll be heading out of Reston and depending where others were coming from, I was thinking we could meet up at an exit and then head out.

I am running 33's so I'm a bit taller than stock, but that's the truck's only claim to fame right now.

I was planning on a one day ride but think that I could manage being down there both days (maybe a late afternoon on Saturday and then Sunday). I could possibly have a friend in tow, so I'll see what his availability is.

i won't know definitely till after this weekend (need to do rear rotors and pads and a couple of other things this weekend). for me though, it would just be a day trip, preferably Sat, but if you guys are already down there Sat night, I could meet up with you somewhere Sun morn.

I'm coming out of Fairfax.

I'll try to go to. Chapman needs someone to pull him out of sheetz when he gets high centered on a parking space divider!!! Ha! I only know because I rarely get out of the parking lot myself! Just kidding... but I will try to be there.

Hey guys, I'd like to tag along if you don't mind. Sun is good and if some of you show on Sat, I'd prolly meet ya out there and spend the night.

A coupla weeks ago, that jeep club cleaned up Kephart at the top above the creek, so that would be a worthwhile little run too.

This would be a good opportunity to try out a rig, but I got no winch...

James, will Koren bring the FJ? Did she get the winch on yet?

Where is your winch Mike? Yes, Koren has a winch. We returned the Superwinch because after I inspected it, I think it's a crap winch...poorly made. She got a warn 9000lb for a good price from Clemson drive center. I would love to hit Kephart. I hope I can get all my parts on my truck by then.

Winch is on the D2, I'm thinking of bringing the other rig for it's first "real" offroad since I've got it in top condition and new tires. Not too sure, but there might be some places where a winch will be necessary. Needed it last month on Kephart.

WTF, I'll be there.
I was just there on Saturday for a day run with some folks from D90.com Kephart was good, dropped out in to the creekbed off the right fork...pretty technical. Dry River a little higher than normal but still very passable and always fun. Didn't try Dictum... Screwed around at the damn a little.

I was out on Monday and ran through Kephart and Dry River also. Bottomed out on Kephart unfortunately...

Waiting to hear back from the others and some folks from D-90.com but right now we've got three confirmed for the run.

I am going to try at you you guys at sheetz, but I will not be able to do a run on Sunday. Will anyone be here Saturday for a late afternoon run? If you guys are still around Sunday after about 4-5 I could come up and dick around a little.

Mike, I got koren's winch on today...what a bitch! Had to redrill everything and it's still not done but functional, I hope. Anyone else have a winch? Is the gate at the church still closed? See you all at sheetz at 10.

I'm down with a headcold and won't make it. I was really psyched, though, cause it should be fun and wet. Take some pics, and post them when you get back!

Of course, my truck is all shot to hell. Overheating, eratic idle, shuttering, loss of 75%power. I will be taking the Landcruiser unless I can change wires, plugs and add diff gaurds in 4 hours from now.
