Yes, there are several. If you are close to the Atlanta area, you should hook up with SOLAROS. They normally go on at least one trail ride every month. They're website is www.solaros.com

I found Solaros a great bunch of people to hang out with at the BBQ in Dawsonville after the British Motor Car Day last month, and the monthly club meeting was fun, too. Hill, where are you located? I'm in Atlanta.

I second Christian on that. The BBQ was great. The meetings are fun and the events are great.

I am 3 hours south of Atlanta, fresh out of college and job hunting. There is a strong possibility that I could be in Atlanta or Macon, if in Macon willing to travel to participate in events.

What field are you looking to enter? Right now any job opening is a good job opening.

I've been trying to hook up with Solaros for a couple of months now. I hear they are a great bunch. If I could just get my lazy ass up and go. Do you guys have any suggestions for good trails and camping. We're not really into camping on concrete pads and being able to hear the next campsite's conversations.

That trail ride was a blast, btw.. ;)..

For those who are interested.. pictures from the ride can be seen at http://kuhtz.com/pictures. Slideshow is the easiest way to watch them.

Nice to put faces with some of the people I've seen on the list here. ;) Dave, hope you'll join us again!

Btw, next ride is at Beasley middle of July. Info is posted on the SOLAROS page (here: http://www.solaros.com/BeasleyKnobORV.html). I definitely hope to be there.

I'll be there if I get the day off. I got my fender pulled out far enough from my little "incident" to open my passenger door. The question is are you going to take the Range Rover out on this ride?

Beasley Knob seems to have some good variety of trails, so, yeah, Range Rover will be playing. I have started making offerings to the Rover Gods already. How much playing that turns out to be we will see when I get there :-)..

How did the fender pulling turn out? How did things look when you got the dirt off the lower panels?

I'm still feeling a little ill about that incident.. :-(

IMHO, I could've done the ride at Rich Mountain as well, just would've needed good spotting and patience. It was tricky in a couple of spots, but after seeing Scott's rover get traction with his tires.. I'm not too worried anymore. His Michelin's looked like they were less grippy than my Synchrones -- and that was initially my biggest concern. I'm trying to get a set of 16" wheels (anyone know where I can get steel wheels or something else cheap for off-roading that will fit a Disco2 or P38? Please email me) for the truck before attempting any serious off-roading. Would prefer not to ding those Hurricanes up.

Plus, I really oughta leak check my EAS first :-).. It bothers me to be completely blind to its operation. Need to figure out how to instrument it some.

It was VERY instructional to just watch all you guys and take pictures/video -- makes you look at things a lot more carefully. Plus riding with Jack was probably a huge part of my instruction that weekend. He makes things look really easy out on that trail, driving with finesse through things that seemed to give everybody else pause. :-)

.. which reminds me, I got 2+ hrs of video to edit. *sigh* :-)

To whomever:
Several of us in the Florida club have heard rumors that Rich Mountain has some trail closures.
If this true could you provide more information such as:
1-the extent of closure
2-your opinion on remaining trails, good, ok, poor
3-duration of closure
4-any other trails that would suffice within general area?

Thanks,
Bruce

I am going to be in Cartersville this weekend. I would like to get off of the pavement for a little while.
Is there any good trails around that area?

When is the next SOLAROS event?

Thanks,

Hill

I wont be far from cartersville this weekend. Was just there on New years. Theres a couple of trails around allatoona lake, nothing to great just a some deep ruts and limbs that scratch your truck up, but to jeep guys and the hillbilly crowd up there its extreme!! oh , did you know Matt Stone? why did you let him buy a grand cherokee?!

next event is the 21st. I met a fella from solaros today at Starbucks on Mansell. They meet a Logans Roadhouse on Mansell right off GA 400.

Thanks,

Yeah I know Stone. I didn't know that he had gotten anything different to drive. I was just wondering about trails around that area. I got some pretty mean scratches this year at SAE. How do you know Matt?

He was considering buying my disco, he told me he had just graduated GSU and his buddies were rover owners. So i figured you guys had to know each other. He ended up buying a Jeep (or so he told me!)
I was real worried about my scratches but I pulled out the buffer and some cleaner wax and it took them right out!

Sounds like Stone.
There are a few Rovers in town. Hardly any that get any time off pavement. I am back in Statesboro in grad school. I ended up not doing any riding up in Cartersville.

Thanks for the info anyway,

Hill

Has anyone every done the trail called Rocky Flats?

It is not too far from where I am this weekend and I was thinking about doing it in the morning if it was worth the time.

Thanks for any information,
Hill
