(This is Central NJ)

Peter B and I and maybe Carl C will be running a few old trails and searching for new stuff this weekend (sat or sun, undecided yet). I have a specific task to perform on water road, so expect some REALLY deep water (at times may be over your hood or more, depending on Isabel).

If you're interested post up and let us know. You may want a snorkel and MTs, but if not someone will pull you through.

Rob,

So, whats your excuse this time?

hehehe j/k, any chance you can come this weekend? It would be good to have you on the trip if you can make it. I'm planning to test out my underwater video camera box thingy, so you could be starring in something cool! Or at least unusual.

Dean,

I'm interested, but still a newbie to off-roading. I have an '03 D2 with MTs, a tow strap, and good recovery points front and rear.

Would you feel comfortable with me joining up?

Rick - how many? Look here and see how many sign up! Usually someone else comes on the day, and generally we have 4-6 rovers.

Eugene - Well, I feel comfortable, we've had brand new discos on the same trails and they always did pretty well, beating stock defenders hands down for example. If you have MTs I think you'll be fine. The main risk for you is if you get stuck in a water crossing, it can take 10 minutes to pull you out and during that time water starts ingressing. For a new vehicle the seals are pretty good still, so you may be better off than older vehicles. And because you have recovery points front and back, it will be easier for the others too. If you want, buy another recovery strap so you can have them pre-attached front and back before entering water. Spare shackles are good too. Peter and I have most of the tools and other crap. Hope you can make it!

Back when my rover was stock I drove through 3' of water on the HP's, so you should be fine, especially with MT's.

Uh, maybe the disco driver's outstanding offroad skills had something to do with that defender beating performance?? :-)

Sounds like fun Dean, But I think I'll save myself for the Ocober overnight.

Eugene, I have a stock disco, stock tires, with a big ass bumper. take a look at my profile pic to get a flavor of what you can expect.

Oh, and Dean and Peter are experts at recovery.....they got a lot of practice with me!

Dean: Count me in. Either Saturday or Sunday is fine with me. I will order another shackle and recovery strap from AB first thing in the morning. Assuming Isabel doesn't play havoc with UPS, I should have it by Friday. Otherwise, I'll have to choose one end of the Disco to attach what I have to.

Rick and Jaime: Thanks for the comments! I'm looking forward to this. :-)

Dean, just read it now, will find out asap what day i can go, the new winch is on and so are the new tires, The 03 disco will do well, and the lakes (puddles) mostly have a b-pass, but the bog doesn't, the day is nice, the water is cool, and the dog gets tired
It's a good day
we pack our lunch to eat on the trail while were drying out ecu's
see you all later.
Peter.

Dean,

I have most of Tony's pictures saved on my hard drive. I can cut a CD and bring it to you next time, if you'd like.

All,

I'm working on getting my trip pics posted, but for some reason, my ISPs servers appear to hate every FTP client I have tried on them.

If I can't get them up tonight, I will nicely ask Ho if he can create a picture gallery for me.

Thanks all for a great time.

-Eugene

PS/ Anyone hear from Peter since the trip?

Tony's pics are on his computer that he uses as a server. The website links to them. His computer might be off or he maxed out on allowed bandwith. As of now, i do not think i can make the oct 4th trip. I may be able to meet you out there on sunday morning though. I have the entrances saved on GPS, and found some video and maps of the are on www.pineys.com. I'm gonna try to reseal my doors too, and take the bilge pump off my boat.

Mark,
I have 18"s and did great. But i also have 33" AT's on them. Eugene was stock but with MT's and an arb bar, and needed to be pulled out of a couple (7?) spots. clearance is an issue in a fewe places. If its not wet you may be able to do most of it, or at least get towed through some of it. Not to be condesending (i think thats how you spell it) but dealers have semi annual "treks" through the pine barrens for stock rovers, but probably not where we were. You could try strattford park. A lot less mud, but still opportunities to get dirty and have some fun. It is a lot smaller of an area though. If you want to kill an hour there one afternoon, i'll go.

Dean,

you don't know me but I was looking forward to finally meeting you at MAR. I've heard great things about you from Glenn Guinto, and am very disappointed you won't be joining us this year. At least you're passing it up for a good reason! I'll catch ya some other time.
