Peter Blatt and I and a few others are heading down the barrens Oct 3,4,5 for a few day- and night-time trails in Wharton Starte Forest. We have a few spare places left in the three Yurts (canvas structures with 4 beds each), plus there is a $1 camp site next to this, and both use hot shower bathrooms and facilities. (I think its hot water anyway).

We have permission to do the trails at night, so we are planning water road and Peter's swamp road areas at night, and possibly a few news trails in the day time.

Some of us may be heading down Friday evening, doing a bbq and maybe a trail that night. Peter will update us on his schedule by the end of this weekend.

Feel free to join in any time. But as usual be aware that we do some pretty deep water crossings and there may be scratches on some of the trails, but not too bad. Stock discos may occasionally have to be pulled out in places, so you have to have recovery points and 2 straps per-attached please.

We'll post more details here over the next few days, so if you're interested let us know. Below is Peter's email to me with some more info. The site we stay in is at Lebanon State Forest, but we'll be wheeling in Wharton SF, which isn't too far away. There is a giant flee market a few miles away for people if they want to check it out, open sat and sunday all day.

Dean

From Peter:

Well the time is coming close for the (mini mar) right here near home, Jamie C is in and has rented the third yurt, that's you in one and me + ?2 plus Jamie +?2 so there seems to be a couple of extra beds, plus the camping is right next to the yurts and the fee for that is 1$ per person per night, I might be bringing one, there are no pets allowed and only batt operated lights, there are grills that are next to our yurts for food prep as well as bathrooms with showers 100 yards away, the camping spot is about 1/4 mile from rt 70 and rt 72 I e-mailed the two folks that responded to my poll and asked for them to keep an eye on the d-web, I am also happy to bring a bunch of food and charcoal for our bbq Dinner, I think that all this sounds like a mini vacation! and hopefully I will have my truck dried out by then!??!

I've rented yurt no. 16 and there are 5 available spots. 2 on the floor, and 3 in bunks.

The price is $50 total for Friday and Saturday night for the yurt, so we can split it based on who shows up.

It doesn't look like I can make it Friday evening, but I'll be there on Saturday morning.

In order to accomodate anyone who shows up Friday night in yurt no. 16, I need to have someone get the keys on my behalf. So, Dean or Peter, can you give me a number where I can fax you a copy of the rental authorization and a note from me saying that you can pick up the key on my behalf.

Thanks

You're telling me! I'm hoping that the mud and swamp gods are with me this time and I won't get stuck as much! Then again, I can't complain because I learn something new about recovery and driving each time I get stuck. (I should also be thankful that the door seals on my Disco seem to work rather well.)

Rick-- Sure, we can meet at the circle again. I'm not sure what time the trail festivities begin on Saturday, but I plan to be there!

Thanks,
-Eugene

Lets say around 10 10.30 on saturday morning, it will give Debs a chance to get the baby ready and I'm sure it will be a late night on Friday, especially if we bring Jaime:-) (j/k Jaime!)

Peter the directions are sufficient, what you have already posted above? If not, let us know more details.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again:-)

Ok here are some more details. Meeting time is 10am on saturday morning on the circle at 206 and 70. We'll be going back to the yerts to unpack a few things possible for an hour or two then.

Peter and I will head down Friday evening with possibly a few others. We're leaving from New Brunswick around 7 or 8pm but this has to be finalized still. We're gonna do a few trails and try to find a back route into the regular swamp area that Peter goes swimming in occasionally. Time to flex those 4000s too.

Saturday some time we will be having a bbq so keep that in mind if you are bringing any food.

Give Peter a call (number above) or me on:

609 419 9800 work
732 873 0199 eve
732 771 6374 Cell (if I'm on the road / off road)

With the recent lack of rain I think a stock disco will be no problem for anyone.

I'll be at the circle on Saturday morning.

I'll bring a bag of charcoal, a coleman stove, some chips and salsa, and will probably pick up some perishables Saturday morning.

Pete, thanks for bringing the winch. I'll bring $$$

Thanks everyone for making that a weekend to remember! Send me an email at Dean@multimodalinc.com tomorrow and I'll email you all the pics I have. I'll also prepare an mpeg and send it to you on CD if you include your mailing address.

Quite remarkable don't you think, that 5 discos can be put through all that crap for 2 long days and nights, and not one of them had a single problem!

Thanks again all, for making that a superb day. Hope you all made it home ok.

My thanks as well to everyone for a wonderful weekend! It was a great time and my Rover now has the refreshing scent of a Christmas tree. (Audrey just corrected me and said that it smells like a mix of a swamp and a Christmas tree, but I'll ignore that.) :-)

We ended up with over 100 pictures. Send me an email (eugenema@optonline.net) with your mailing address and I'll mail you a CD.

Thanks again all and I hope everyone made it home safe and sound.

Eugene,

The only reason I mail out CDs is because they have 500MB+ of video on them. For the pics, if you want you can just select the best ones and email them.

Rick - My truck makes a grinding noise when I brake now, kinda like metal on metal, but I think it's just grit and crap in there. I'll check it out tonight make sure I haven't worn down the pads all the way.

Oh and a round of applause for Peter: thanks for everything, for arranging all the Yerts and night-time permission, and making it all go smooth, and for rescuing everyone quickly when the time came! (Winch-speed envy I guess:-))

So, what's next then?

I have 11 mb free on my site. It is limiteds accessibility, but it will give someone a chance to download it.
Have you thought about putting it up on direct connect then allowing everyone to download it from you?

You mean Kazaa? I dunno if it will get through my firewall. If not, how can I get the file to you? I could put it up on a yahoo group but the file limit is 5MB each so it would have to be HJSplit.exe and joined (which is quite easy).

Never mind I put the video on Philyrovers, in the Files section (MiniMar album), you'll have to join the two parts before playing it. There's a little helper application in with the two parts, you'll see.

I'll make a longer and high-res video and send it out when I get the chance.

Direct connect is kinda like kazaa, except much better. You can download and share anything you want, search, or browse through peoples shared files. You can download it at download.com. What is the website for philyrovers?

Rick,

Its a group called phillyrovers in yahoo. I think you need to be invided by Chris von C. I think if you live in this pa/nj/ny area and go offroading then you will be invited. Maybe send him an email.
