I'm looking for some good trails out in the gorge for all you Or and Wa rovies. Can anyone recommend some nice trails that get way back but aren't too heinous. I would be the only vehicle, and I don't have a winch or lift. Just a guy with a stock car that doesn't care about the paint job. I have been out to the gorge a number of times, we head up logging roads looking for rock climbing potential. Anyhow, trail advise, or someone to go out with would be great fun! |

Andy- I've been up on the Washington side just west of Beacon Rock. Find the Washougal river on your TOPO maps, look for a network of roads branching off of the Duggan falls recreation area. And to the east of the river it looks like you can get into the area by following the Hard Scramble creek down from the North, but it was washed out in two places last time I went up - the first was passable, the second was not even traversable by foot!! There are lots of powerline roads and stuff. Lots of fun to be had up there just getting muddy and practicing ditch crossing, short hill climbs etc... but lots of branches to get scratched on, and many of the roads have drainage ditches every 100 feet or so - slow going, but easy to get to from Portland or Vancouver. http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |
