I recently found out that the land on which Upper and Lower Helldorado had been sold and that the owner had closed the trails. The last update i saw was in late Dec O3. Does anyone know the trail's current status?

i was told that these trails were closed and that this is where nasa is filming the mars rover mission. i tend to think that maybe the environmental impact of driving up a river bed pushed the owner to shut it down.
in any case, this area is now closed. hope you got to run it when it was open. cuz it was one sweety of a trail.

The story that I have read and heard from some local Utah forums is that the land that Lower sits on has been sold to a pivate owner. It was previously school trust land and the owner that bought does have some affiliation with enviromental groups. However, recently she has tried to fence off the trail without going through the proper channels and the local PD have been tearing the fences down, leaving the trail open. I would suggest that lower helldorado not be run right now because of the tense situation, but Upper is still open as well as Strike Ravine.

According to what i know, as it was included into goneMOAB event and therefore discussed on XTerra board - trail itself is not closed, but some optional obstacles that actually always were on private land are now blocked. Cant remember names, as i never drove that trail :-)

sean,
you are right, i looked into it further after my post and the result was that lower is closed but upper remains open.
now instead of using lower to get to upper, you run the exit which runs through the stream bed to upper.

and for what it's worth, upper is not for the faint at heart.
i'll see if i have any pictures of the first obstacle at the entrance. it gets down to business in a hurry.

As per an article in the SL Tribune yesterday (www.sltrib.com), A district judge in Monticello was to rule on the situation yesterday. Even the lawyer for the couple who owns the land said the County would win access. It is apparently an entrance to BLM land and cannot be blocked. Expect all of it to be open today or by ejs at the latest.

...OK, maybe not yet. The judge refused to grant the injunction, but left open the possibility of tresspass on Helldorado for the moment. Strike Ravine is open fully, and Helldorado is...well...sorta open. Sounds like the couple is running out of money to push the issue so expect the SUWA bastards to jump in.
