If for some reason I were to return to the area would there be some good places to wheel near Ellicott City/Baltimore/Washington? Didn't start wheeling until I got to CO.

Not much here like in CO but there are a few places. You'll have to go west to GWNF or Gore in VA mostly. I don't know of many places on the eastern shore of MD other than beach driving. PA has a few places too. Washington has the Urban trails and if this winter is anygood you'll have more ruts and holes to drive into. Just roll up the windows and if you hear loud bangs it's not your engine backfire or diff letting go. :)

There are a few here in the Northern VA area. If you move to the area I would be glad to take you to some of the trails I know of.

Sean - I lived right next to E-city (Catonsville)for 34 yrs (course only about half of those could I legally drive :) ) - but anyway - no, there is nothing legal to drive in the area.

GWNF or PA or western MD is about it for fun places to go.

This is not promising:( No place close to wheel, shitty skiing, marginal mountain biking, trafic, heat, bugs and no property to be had? Help

They do have beaches though!

Sean,
I am from Ellicott City originally but live in New York now.I still visit the area once every two months since my family lives there, as far as property I know what you mean, my sister had to move to Mt. Airy to get a house with a yard. When I wheeled there I used to go to a place called the pits off of Rt. 29 south headed to DC, that was a long time ago though (late 80's probably houses there now). As far as mountain biking I am an avid MTBr & enjoy Avalon in Catonsville & Loch Raven in Towson.

Brian,
I also grew up near EC, Columbia to be exact. I spent ten years ridding in Avalon, Mckelden , Fairhill and Loch Raven. All those places were fun and fairly close. I used to live in Elkridge just on the edge of Avalon. I'm just worried about returning and giving up all of the great outdoor activities here in CO. When it comes to being outside there is no comparison. I was hoping that the wheeling would be good, but I guess my luck has run out. Giving up skiing and wheeling might be tough.

Sean,
Where are you in the area? There are quite a few d-webbers in the area. Many of us are also heading out to the MAR this weekend. As far as mountain biking, there's Wakefield park inside the beltway and Fountainhead park outside, that's pretty crazy. But no, it ain't CO. Hills are shorter with more plant life to content with. If you're interested in heading out for wheeling, biking, or backpacking, lemme know.

Sean,
I would not want to leave CO either. I lived in Salisbury MD for 5 years & had to go back to Balt. area for any MTBing, because it was so flat there.I think Kyle lives in MD around Laurel & I'm sure he knows of some wheeling in the area.

During summer I live in Fairfax, there is SOME stuff around, but its not super huge or anything, you really do have to drive a few hours to get good stuff, but it is out there if you know where to look.

Tate,
I'm still in the hills of Colorado. I was just thinking out loud about returning to Maryland. I grew up there and all of our family and many of our long time friends are back east. The only reason I would even consider it is we now have a 15 month old son. He was supposed to grow up with our friends kids and all that junk. I knew I would not be able to ski 50 days a year and mountain bike in places like Crested Butte but I was hoping that the wheeling would be good.
