Will,

How about Dec 20th for the GWNF run? A few of us Richmonder's would love to give it a go with someone who is familiar with the trails.

I can do the 20th. I'll see about getting together some other folks too. This weekend, the 13th, the will be a group of hummers coming down, H1&H2's. I have to work till 2:00, but I hope to see how they do up there. The is still alot of snow on the MTN, and they are calling for a little more this weekend. Should be a good time no matter where we go.

I did sme checking around on the shoecreek thing. At the end of the summer the state department "tank Trapped" alot of the side trails. There is one area that has a "rock garden", but it is on privte property. The land owner does not mind people messing around on it, in fact he likes to see people break on it, but he also hunts the land. Last week he ran off a club from Maryland. From what the guy I was talking to understood was: come and play, be gone by dark, and stay out of there from Oct till Jan. I am not familer with that area. So I really can't say where this is. If you are ever coming this way during the week let me know. If I have a few days notice I can always get someone to cover for me at the office.

That sucks. I would still be up for heading up there or some where close by. My truck tops out at about 55 so long road trips are a pain in my ass. Are you free sometime next week?

We just got 3 more inches of snow followed up by some freezing rain. There should be allot of this stuff left next week. The plan is this: Meet at the Bridgewater/Mt. Crawford Exxon/Burger King at 10-10:30 on Saturday. Depending on the weather as to what trails we can do. Directions are as follows: I-81 to exit 240, Rt. 257 west to first stop light, exxon is accross the street. I will send out an e-mail to those who have already contacted me about the trip details later in the week (Wed?). If anyone has a last minute urge to come we will run CB channel 4, FRS channel 4,0 and will at least end up in the Rawley flats area off rt.33.

Thanks Guys! I had a blast!
I'm gonna do some bumper trimming and tire shopping so we can do it again soon.
Oh, Bobbie slept pretty good last night. I like how she snuck in the meadow picture.
It looks like everyone was praying in the 3rd picture. I got stuck but it wasn't THAT bad, was it?

I had a great time as well. Thanks for letting a Jeeper tag along. Minor winching was required, but it was a lot of fun. I think all of us with a new winch got to break them out at some point. I can't wait to go back and do some exploring...
How was the last trail you guys tried, after we left to come back to Richmond?

We went into the Dry Run Dam area. There was some deep water crossings there. Then we turned left in to the Lost Mirrors trail. There was sme rutted out frozen mud holes with standing water in them. Nothing off the wall, but a good trail to finish up the day.

We will have to get together another time. We could always do another snow run on 2nd Mtn, or when the show melts Paragon is not too far.

I'm up for another snow run if you bring straps!
I'm going to break out the die grinder with cutoff wheel later today to get rid of that un-needed air dam.
Let me know.
(P.S. let me know if you would like to exchange electrical for fabrication work!).

Walter,

I think you can simply unbolt the air dam, at least thats all you have to do on a D1.

IMHO, the single biggest improvement you can do to your stock truck is tires. If you want to maintain a good highway ride and greatly increase your off road performance you should check the Bridgestone Dueller AT Revos...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Dueler+A% 2FT+Revo

You can see that they are the top rated AT tire on www.tirerack.com.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/orat.jsp

After weeks of research last year I decided on these tires, but in the end I got the Trac Edges because they were only $50 each. When the Trac Edges die, I'm putting on these Revos.

Thanks for the info Eric. Moneys tight now so I'm actually thinking of the Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers.
Unfortunately the air dam on the d2 is part of the bumper cover.
I put a little hurtin' on it on the 2nd trail we hit. I've been planning on trimming it but this just gave me the added incentive.

Saw you guys as I was driving down 33 after wheeling with a group of Jeepers. I'd be up for a trip in the snow. Less ice would be great. I have a set of Dunlop Mud Terrains and they have been great so far. Cheap too.

Sorry you got stuck with the Jeepers, LOL. I may go out somewhere on the 28th. Nothing planned yet, but I'm up for what ever. I'm not sure what the weather is going to be, but I hope for a little more snow. After the first of the year sometime I want to hit Paragon or Rauch Creek.

Where is McLean? What trails did you guys hit?

It wasn't too bad. I'd gone out with the same group before. They were camped on Kephardt so we tried to go to the falls but the stockers that went got stuck. We ended up running around that old Salt shed. I'm not really sure it was my first time there. Had fun though. Had to laugh though when one of the lifted jeeps holed his rad on a piece of ice.It was interesting to see him get tandom towed out. The river crossing was interesting. Never had water come up through the hood before. I'd be game for something on the 28th. I've got a stock d-90. I'm going to wait to go back to Raush Creek untill after i get my diff guards. Let me know what's going on and I'll see if i can go.

Wait till Steve at Rovertym has his diff guards on sale. About $150.00 a set!!! We must have just missed you guys. We were in Salt shed too around 3:30 or so. You must have saw the guystwho had to cut out a little early on 33. I can't belive they were camping in Kepheart. It was 20 degrees on top of the Mtn, so I'm sure it was not much warmer down low.

Yeah. I saw one or two just comming out of the woods. The mechanic that works on the rover ordered me a set of Rovertym diff guards. Can't wait to see them and get them on. It sounds like only 3 people camped all 3 days they were up there. For the brief time I was up there it was snowing hard enough to drop visibility to about 5 feet.

Tyler,

Myself and two others are planning to do some trails up in that area on Monday (2/16). Can you provide some directions to them. I'm not entirely familiar with the area.

One of the guys I'll be with knows the area, but doesn't know where any trails are at.

Post here if you don't mind, or offline: kris@ckmweb.com

I appreciate it!
