The trip is on! Sat May 1st, I scouted yesterday and found that the trails are mostly passable, There is alot of water and mud to get through, It Will be a great day ! ! !
If you aren't running MTs, This is your excuse, If you are running road tires, Bring something to bail out your interior! I got through with no water ingress, I was lucky!!
We Will be meeting at rt 70 + rt 206 @ 10am sat morning May 1st,
Will be stopping for lunch on the trail, so bring something to eat/cook/drink, Once we go in, we wont be emerging for several hours, 5-6pm, and some of us will be staying for a night run lasting long into the night!
This is a free outing in a great area,
Things you need to bring!
A strap for the front, and one for the rear!
A great smile!
A change of clothes
Food
Things that are suggested,
extra shackles, ( i will have some 4 3/4 ton for sale cheap)
Hip waders/water proof boots
your dog
your winch
your cb( most of us are using them) a very useful tool!
Your mud terrains
Rain Date-----------Sat may 1st

Tyler,

Try a MapQuest search for "Red Lion, NJ". Two results will be returned. Choose the one for Burlington, US.

If you are familiar with the NJ Turnpike, the Rt. 70 and Rt. 206 circle is about 30 minutes south of Exit 7.

If you are coming from the DC area, it will probably be about 2:45 or 3 hours without traffic.

I think that you and i should bring some elec contact cleaner, Lots of distributers coming along!
If you've got one of those dizzy things. I suggest that you get some Noalux from home depo, and use it on all connections at the distributer and spark plugs. you will be getting wet up there, and a waterproofed distributer will keep us all moving along quite nicely!
Dean 3" this week?????? Time for those 8"portal axles??!!!!!!
Peter. Sounds like great fun!

Do you still think we're gonna be able to do the mud trail / D's Nemesis / and all that jazz?

Also, is Jaime's winch gonna work after a dip?

Peter, Dean, Jaime-

Given the amount of rain we have had lately, do you think it makes sense to advise people to remove their CD changers? This is for Rover's with CD changers mounted underneath the passenger seat.

I assume you are taking part in this, Eugene?

After all, Peter said he doesn't want to go first, and that that task was assigned to me, unless I can find some other sucker! (well ok he didn't put it quite that way, but you get the point!):-)

I thought we had all agreed that the heaviest vehicle goes in first! (Oh wait, that was from the winter runs.) :-)

I'm in for the May 1 festivities. I have a new recipe for hot and spicy sausage parm sandwiches that I want to try.

I'm getting pumped for this trip, and can't wait to try out the winch. I have no doubt that it will work when wet, since this winch was weaned in the Barrens with Mr. Blatt at the controls!

I'll also bring some extra straps in case we have any long pulls.

How bout smallest tires goes first, not heaviest. That way when the person in front of me gets stuck, i will know where not to go.
LOL

Ill see you guys at the diner.

hopefully i will have my new toys installed by then.

Hey how long are you down from Boston?

(ps I agree - smallest smoothest tires go first, unless we need to pull someone through. Although I think we have enough winch line to double back for most crossings anyway:-))

If smallest tires go first then I guess I have a good chance of going first, 225/75-16.

I'm with you....saggy stock springs and 225/75 16s as well. But at least they're mudders.

Peter B emailed me today to confirm that he is very eager to head up the trip and hit ALL of the water crossings first.

Honestly:-)

Actually, for all the people attending this trip, especially the newcomers, you should take in the techniques and almost god-given vehicular skills that Peter excels in, especially in water crossings. Generally a flawless and unsurpassed technique that very few in the world could ever aspire to, much less reach. As one of the great grand masters of offroading, we can all learn a valuable lesson in following and attempting to mimic such an intrepid leader.:-)

Oh and Dean's Nemesis, but I'm DEFINITELY NOT going through that one first, or until at least a dozen others have gone through unstuck.

Ok I'll bring 11x17 maps on the day. I can print them on my office color lazer printer. I'll email you all the trails we've done and you can import them into a new project. Give me a few days I'll try to do it this weekend.

Dean

I am still laughing Dean!!!
The stream crossings are fun and not too deep, 20" or so, safe wading depth for disco's, But that is on the way to the swamp trail!
And Dean, Who was that driver who took the center of the trail where noone else went and sunk his charelston green disco up to the top of the headlights, and the bottom of the center consol???? me?
Oh well, we will all have a great time and noone will be getting stuck!
Peter.
