Why do you want another disco Dean?

You know those 14cux trucks really don't like water, GEMS is much better, coil pack in back, ECU higher up and more waterproofable.

Ron basically I want a 3rd vehicle as a back-up when I'm working on either of the other two. Cant stand having to get the damn things back together by net working day. I wouldn't take it offroad much if at all. Don't really want to spend more than around 3-4K, and Kyle indirectly convinced me that a 94/5 is a good choice.

Oh hell, now you did it. You're not supposed to give hime credit publicly. I know the feeling Dean, that's why I bought a 95 disco last summer to go with my 90RRC and 97 disco. Would like to point out though that 97 disco has been great.

So are there any major differences between the 94/5 and the 96/7's? I mean in terms of drivetrain and suspension, and body and interior?

I've been in contact with someone over a 95 with 93K miles (pretty low for a 95) and its $5500, just out of my range, it looks nice but I'm not sure of the prices in this region. Looks like it was taken care of. I won't put more than a couple of K miles on the thing every year.

The seats are nicer in my 97, but they are power, versus manual in 95 but I really like the headrest on the power seats. The engine is 4.0 vs 3.9 which can be a controversial subject. OBD2 vs. Distributor. To be honest my 97 has 80k and 95 has 90k and the 95 feels like it has more power. Other than that I think they are the same. I bought my 95 for $6400 last summer with 85k so I would say $5500 is a good price all in all.

Great. Thanks for your help. The disco I mentioned for 5500 is in fact a 96. Sorry for any confusion.

Do the 94/5's have any OBD at all? I'm already sick and tired of my D2's electronics!

Dean,

How about my 89 Rangie? I would be a great 3rd truck. Very reliable. Located in Northern NJ.

94's and 95's has a readout under the passenger seat that gives you codes. 96 you have to have the program too look and see which codes are tripped. the early ones are easier to self diagnos, but not always.

Well Kyle,

Ask Dean about how many F'in times I had to clean out the cap in my D90 the one time it was in the Barrens.

While I am sure pulling the fan would have prevented the problems (or not revving so high :-) ) I did not feel like it or risk overheating.

Also the 94-95 ECU is under the seat as opposed to in the back of the engine compartment on GEMS where it is easier to seal up.

That being said if it is not going swimming in the barrens once a week either is fine.

The 94-95 code reader is nice especially as you need an OBD II to read GEMS, but the experience I have had with mine are the GEMS are easier to keep running well (vacuum advance failures, ECU failures, O2 failures are more common on 14CUX, but valve jobs are the big $$$$ killer on GEMS). All the 14CUX trucks I have been around never seem to run perfectly. RR is a split-second slow start, D90 has the "flat spot," etc. The only reason I ended up with a GEMS disco and Alyssa had a GEMS is that the seat goes back further, but I don't think that is an issue for Dean.

If Alyssa gets one on trade we will keep you in mind. Last year we let a really nice 95 with 70k go for $5500 so more miles and an issue or two will get it into your price range.

Ron

Yeah I'm seeing prices for 94/95s between 4.5K and 11K, and it doesn't seem to correlate with any mileage considerarations, in fact quite the opposite: there are a few with only around 55K-75K that are on the cheaper end of things, which doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone know of a good internet site that is for private sales only and not dealers?
