I have seen the technitop tents. Willie one of the guys from "up north" sells them. He is on the board. I saw the tent in action on a trip out last year. It looks good slept a few of his kids. I think everyone in the club was ooohing and awwwing over it. Check out the tent at http://offroadacademy.com/gear.php

They do. Trust me.

So if I put one on the 130 I wouldn't have to tie a porkchop around my neck?

I personally would rather have one of these:

Yes, they are longer, but I really like the idea of a hard roof.

Here is a dealer's page with (their) prices.

And here is a gallery of Land Rover pics:

Speaking of Hannibals. Does anyone have any pics of the roof rack on a Disco? I really like the low profile of it. I also like the awning attachment. it would be great for camping tailgating etc. Anyone have one with pics or opinions?

Jon,

It's actually a fairly straight forward process to mount a Hannibal tent to your adventure rack. For a few bucks more ($25) we actually ship out all the necessary hardware for mounting to an adventure rack.

Here's a pic of a 1.2m on the Safety Devices Expedition rack of my DI. Slightly different rack but the same basic concept...

Thanks,
Nathan Hindman

We bought a Hannibal tent off Nathan from Pangaea Expeditions last year and love it. Very well built, user friendly and a real attention getter. Expect questions like "How many times have you been to Africa?"

The tent Nathan posted looks much more attractive with that rugged outdoorsy rock behind the Rover.

I suppose if one is carrying a load of people the tent thing's a good idea. Personally, I'd rather sleep in my nice comfy back seat.

I am also looking for a tent. This was a very useful thread. I can really see the benefit of the hard tops, but like the look of the hannibals and other version made in canada (can't remember name). I just wonder which of them will be warmest. It gets cold up here, even in late summer once the sun goes down. I also need one big enough for two adults and two kids. I want an awning and think I may be able to use a shower enclosure for ice fishing, by parking my truck out on the ice. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong - but with all of these roof mounted tents don't you loose a ton of rack space ? And - how well do these hold up in a high wind - I know they probably do great when your on safari in deepest darkest Africa or out in the bush in Australia - but how about up in the Waaaaay North where its regularly -40 and the winds blowing up a storm ??
