what do you all consume water wise while camping?
Im trying to estimate how much potable water to bring on a 4 day, 4 night trip.

we will not be doing any hiking ( i.e massive water consumption by the group), but need the water for cooking and drinking etc.

much appreicated

Joshua

I use a a 5 gallon jug during a 2 night trip primarily for cooking, washing and drinking water for the dog. Walmart has a few water container options for about $5. I still take bottle water in my cooler.

As a planning figure, we work on 5litre per person per day. Take into consideration that colddrinks, beer etc does imply liquids and could lessen the requirement. Personal hygiene does not imply having a no-limit shower daily,a basin and cloth can be sufficient. The bigger issue is to decide where to carry the water. It is heavy as 1 litre equals 1 kilogramme. Carry it in such a manner that it does not negatiovely effect the vehicle's centre of gravity. use more smaller containers and stick them into those little nooks and carannies you get when packing the vehicle. In this way it is easy to carry upto 60 litres odd. Regards,
Kinnie

Is beer considered "water"? Same food group, right?

stock american beer = piss water

for a 4 day/4 night trip, I'd bring 10 gallons for 2 people. not including bathing or lots of boiling water for cooking. you may not use it all, but it beats drinking dust if you need it.

If I am not using a water for drinking (because other beverages are available) I plan on .5 gallons per person per day. Thats just for cooking and personal hygiene. We use natural water sources for cleaning up dishes and stuff. Depends on what you have available where you are going.
