I want to buy a box that stores all my cooking supplies in. I saw one at Sam's Club that swings open from the top and front so you can access everything easily. Does anyone know of any alternatives?

Michael, any closer pics of that black box? What do you have attached to the lid?

Check www.macscouter.com/ When my kids were in scouts there were several sets of plans floating around to build chuck boxes. We never got around to it but it still interests me. we got some cedar boxes at a garden show and they hold our camping kit quite nicely and fit in the back of the Disco like they were made for it.

Neal, missed your question there. It is a Pelican Case with a Pelican Case Organizer. That critter is perfec t for kitchen odds and ends. I can take a close up picture if you want. I put spices, baggies, garlic press, all in neat zippered pouches of tough nylon mesh.

I've been thinking of a similar set up I say at GI Joe's today.
Kitchen Thingy

The one there had a backing to the middle section, but it kinda looks the same as the one you have Michael. 45" long when folded, just 3 inches shy of an Adventure Rack's width. :-)

As for stove, nothing less than 30,000 BTUs per burner. http://www.gijoes.com/product/index.jsp?productId=848732&cp=713364..713407.712678&parentPage=family Only sissies use "Simmer".

I have noticed since going there that Walmart is consistently cheaper on most items though.

There must have been some VERY hungry people lurking about for the "cook" to be packing heat!

Do my eyes deceive me or does he have a pistol under each arm?

Truck Haven was a guns and rovers get together with an Iron Chef Showdown to see who could cook and who couldn't.

Hey all. I bought one of those THERMOS Grill's to Go. as a very basic setup that is very well contained and compact. BUT, it is not very good for a big crowd and lots of food. PLUS, not very good for partially frozen hamburgers. Takes quite along time to heat up. I like it for small family outings etc. Looks as though you guys are pretty setup of some serious grub. I love cooking so I can say that I will evetually emulate your endeavors and pick something up like that...

Are you from the East Coast Mike?? A smart Western chef knows not to cook with his gun hand.... :-)

Nope, strictly West Coast man -- frankly, I was not at all worried about cooking with my gun hand, Peter ....

I figured I had my back was adequately covered....

FWIW, I use 2 big rubbermaid containers for my kitchen chuck boxes, 3 counting the dry foods.

I use to travel all summer on a motorcycle and I had a whole kitchen stuffed into one saddle bag, including the stove. Then I discovered a two burner propane stove at wallyworld and that fit under my sleeping bag on the back. But I could cook up a storm with that kitchen. You don't really "need" a lot of "stuph" for a kitchen if your a little creative. I used a small (8") wak for just about all my cooking and had a great time every time I cranked that thing up in a camp ground.

....come to think of it I still have that kitchen container up in the rafter of my garage. It's an aluminum expedition container I bought over in Germany several years ago. A waterproof can about 18 X 18 X 7 with a lockable lid and handle. Pretty neat set of gizmo's. But that will give you an idea about what you can use. Worked for me for a long time. I had 130,000 BMW motorcycle miles when I retired from two wheels.

How come all of the east coast guys think this is noteworthy?

Have you driven on our freeways, watch out on I-5 for a White Milk Truck with an EE sticker... Driver is Armed and Hilarious....

I've never had the pleasure of driving out west.

I think the reason that I for one feel that it is noteworthy is that it isn't something you see around these parts. Of course there is that guy around hunting season with a shotgun or bow rack in his F150.

when i lived in Vermont i saw lots of folks wearing sidearms. grocery store, etc. all you need up there to carry is a valid hunting license.

Vermont and the West Coast are virtually the same as far as their gun policies...their motto is "Live Free or Die", for God's sake. I agree with Blue....residual adventurism...and I also agree with John...yet, I personally think the reason is:

Because We Can.

John
I was just in LLBean today and saw it. It was around 100 bucks

for a bit more, you can get this lightweight aluminum one, that has 3 or 4 tiers, hnaging stuff and looks pretty compact.

I think, though. A nice plywood box is better, $ wise anyway

John, Here is where you can buy it
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/deals2all/camporkitfor.html

Also, I looked at the LL Bean box. It's more like $175 and I didn't like it as much. http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=11941 &storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=3899&shop_method=pp&feat=ln&sc1= &sc2=&sc3=&sc4=&sc5=Cookware_Utensils

Wow....pretty slick setups.

I simply use a folding card table, and a couple of Rubbermaid Totes (one for Cookware and Accessories, and one for a Dry-Food Locker). Whole setup was under $30, and the totes stack nicely in the back of the TARDIS - Card Table lays flat, so you hardly know it's there. They're semi-transparent, so you can peek thru the side to figure which is which.

I don't know if it's a compliment or not but I showed my kitchen-in-a-box setup to my mother in-law and she said that I'm the Martha Stewart of camping. Kind of funny.

Is there really something out there called kitchen-in-a-box? If not, is there anything out there that just comes all together?? You know, like a "camping for dummies package"?

The photos above look like everyone was getting ready for an old fashioned shoot out!

Thanks, Jamie

5{ber the exact URL, but I ran accross a box just like you are looking for with several options. A guy in Montana makes them I think. really nice fold open and assemble in minutes deal. I was searching for the same thing "camping tables" and eventually ran accross the thing. I'll look to see if I can find the link, but I know it is exactly what you are looking for...

I kinda like the Mission Kitchen from <http://www.montane.com/>... It's on my wish list now. Also, their Towel & TP Trekkers look nicer then the similar product from <http://www.n2bags.com/>. (I have the latter, and are considering the former.)

Anyone have a working link to (or company/product name for) the plastic kitchen box mentioned above?
