If the foil is heavy duty enough, this could be used as an engine block recipe. If not, cook it over the coals when you get there, eh.

Cooking Time: 60 minutes
A fast dinner that's tasty, easy to prepare and, best of all, easy to clean-up. Prepare this 'all-in-one' meal for your family today!

Ingredients

2 1/2-  3 lbs frying chicken, quartered
salt and pepper
1  package gravy mix or 1 envelope onion or chicken soup mix
1 1/2  cups frozen mixed vegetables
1-1  ½ cups frozen french fries

Instructions

1. Sprinkle chicken on all sides with salt and pepper. On each of four large heavy duty foil squares(18 x 12 inches), place ¼ chicken.
2. Sprinkle each with about 2 tsp dry chicken gravy mix; place about ½ cup frozen vegetables and 7 or 8 potato pieces with chicken.
3. Wrap each foil dinner, folding edges over twice and sealing; place on cookie sheet.
4. Bake at 400° or grill over hot coals for about 1 hour until thickest part of chicken is tender.

I heard there is a book called Manifold Destiny and it is for cooking on your engine. I'll see if I can find a copy and post some recipes.

When I had my boat, before we headed out I would stick a can of baked beans on top of the intake manifold. Nice and hot in time for lunch...

...even a Manifold Destiny II now...I have the original kicking around somewhere.

I've cooked many times on the intake/exhaust manifold on my '72 Series III, but not yet on the Disco. On the 2.25 motor, there's a nice spot well suited for the below recepie. There doesn't seem to be a good place on the V-8 tho'....

My favorite recepie is pork tenderloins. Season with salt, pepper, garlic and an 'Italian herb' mix. Triple wrap in heavy duty foil. Turn after 80 or so miles....

Bon appetit

I would be concerned about the can of beans exploding.

what you have to let the rover run for and hour to cook something? bring all this food and camping equipment, coolers etc and no stove? sounds cool but i would pull ou the colman and be eating way faster!
we used to wrap can of beans or what ever canned in burlap and light the end. by the time it is out you have hot food. we did this while on snowmobiles. we made a copper heat box that was tied on top of the exhaust system. pre cook hamburgers or hot dogs, wrap them in foil, place i heat box. by the time lunch time comes you got food in the middle of some snow covered skidoo trail.

Wow, late post. The idea is that you cook it on the way while you are driving.

A guy that I used to work with cooked his dinner that way on his rush hour drive home from work some times. It took him just enough time going home ( 1 1/2 to 2 hours ) for him to roast chickens and make pot roast. I thought that he was crazy then and I still think that he is crazy now. Some how I think that the fumes from burning oil, ATF from the power steering, and who knows what else is in there just wouldn't add a very good flavor.
