If I bought you guys a 80GB Maxtor 8MB cache ATA/133 7200RPM drive for use with the website, could I post 80KB 640x480 pictures again?

I figure you use SCSI drives, but it was worth a try.

No Sir, the 200 is for my own use (plus they need special IDE controllers that can handle more than 137GB drives, otherwise things go slow).

And this offer ain't hangin' around much longer. :-)

Thanks, but the issue is bandwidth, not storage space....

Hey if the "only" issue is bandwidth, how about letting us post images that are hosted elsewhere? I tried to do an <img> the other day in the practice area and it didn't like that at all.

Honestly, not trying to cause trouble, but whats the problem with just resizing the pictures to 480 or posting a direct link?

Look at it from an Admin point of view, why go through the hassle of taking the server down to add a drive, or allowing hot-linking to someone elses site (which is pretty uncool to begin with because you are now cutting into the other sites bandwidth) pissing off the other site's webmasters just to post a picture thats a little bit larger?

Oh, I think you are trying to cause trouble!! Or maybe I am.

Well, you can't post 480 pictures any more. The size is more like 340x240 I think now. And that's pretty small if you want any detail. YHou can't really see what a truck looks like at that size.

Well, you obviously only link to sites you use or are posting pictures on, like your own homepage.

It can be done http://support.discusware.com/center/resources/q-and-a/imagelink.html but I guess it ain't up to us.

Doh... I thought it was 480 but I dont think I have posted a picture recently.. my bad.

Yeah, it can be done but did you happen to catch all the reasons NOT to use hot-linking they list there? Basicly that says "dont do it, dont do it, dont do it, but if you really really have to, it can be done". Sooner or later, people will start abusing it.

Like I have said, if you need larger pictures posted, send them to Ho and he will post them in your gallery. The galleries are not as much of a bandwidth hog as the BBS is.

End of discussion.
