How can one look at other people's profiles? I mean, I can edit my own, but can't see how to look at another's.

Thanks
Dean

Click on their name... it will come up, IF they have one.... you can tell, because it will have their name in parentheses at the end...

To see someones profile, just stand next to them instead of in front of them, Dean.

LOL thanks! You know, just by chance, I had never clicked on a name with a (profile). I always just got the email, that's all:)

Damn, I see a number of you are programmers and geologists. What about programming geologists?

And to add to Axel's info, when standing next to Ho, make sure it's up wind.

My wife let me out of the cage.:) I've been lurking, just not much in the way of posting! Found my second wind with my Disco and more importantly 4wheelin, so I figured I would start hanging around more.

Good to see you around.

Part of the reason why I'm a geologist is that while I love computers, programming became tedious.... so, I became a GIS-oriented geologist!

Leslie, do you know Bruce Davis? I think he's down south somewhere and he's big into GIS I think. My dad is a coastal geomorphologist or something crazy like that. All I know is he goes to the beach more in the winter than in the summer ;-)

Doesn't ring a bell, but that doesn't mean much...
My first calling is southern & central Appalachain tectonics, but that really doesn't pay, lol.... I work for the state of VA in the southwest corner, in the Division of Mined Land Reclamation.... we regulate coal mining, ensuring that reclamations is properly planned and caried out, amongst other things. Lot of mapmaking involved, tho'.... :)

Coastal geomorphologist, eh? That'd be a fun job at the Outer Banks (which is one of my favorite spots to just go to and hang out:))... Most of my geomorphology-type of work has been downslope movements in the Appalachians.... ask if he knows Hugh Mills or Skip Watts or Ernst Kastning.... all are former professors of mine that are involved in geomorphology in some fashion...

He didn't recognise the names off hand but said he might know them.

I bet he knows Orrin Pilkey, tho'.... I've not met Orrin, but when I taught Environmental Geology, I used a tape by him for illustrating coastal processes.... good tape.

Hey Leslie, What software do you use for contouring and digitizing???

We don't do a lot of contouring, we use the USGS 7.5-min topos in .dwg format for surface work. If you're wanting to generate your own contours, something utilizing Delauney's(sp?) triangles, etc., I would look at some of Rockware's packages.

In-house, most of my mapwork is done in ArcView 3.2. Our drafting dept. has Arc/Info, and has already begun to upgrade to Arc8... We, the technical reviewers, have been recommended for upgrade to 8 also, but it'll be a year or so.

We also use AutoCAD 2000, Land Development and CADOverlay. Usually, though, I'll work in ArcView, since it's a no-brainer, but does what I need nicely.

There's other bits of software, too, like Trimble's GPS Pathfinder, Adobe Photoshop, or some really odd things like Dynaterm, etc., or things specific to our agency (like our Electronic Permitting programs). And of course, the whole suite of Microsoft Office....
