Guys,

Can't thank y'all enough for all the advice I've received and money I've saved. Really a neat forum. I don't get to post often,I work too much and I also do not have enough experience with my Disco yet to really give input on a lot. Just try to listen and learn.

Y'all really need to put the rear view mirror post in the tech section, or at least some kind of mentioning of it.

Just one idea- I would like to see a registery of the license plates of Rovers on the site for those brave enough to register to see if it was someone on the site and comment on their Rover.

I'll at least buy a t-shirt next week to support the site.

Keep up the good work!

I don't understand why people do block out their licence plate, I don't see what the big deal is. I really wouldn't care about puting my licence plate, I don't get what the big deal is.

giving the people the ability to associate somewhat sensitive info with your name and location is just never a good idea Chris. I know that anyone driving down the road can get your license plate number but just driving down the road they can't get all the other info about you that they could get from here. I don't really know what they could do with it because I'm not a low-life but I really don't want to find out either, its a crazy world out there.

Sooooory guys- didn't mean to start a bad topic.
Should have thought a little more. Just a thought. It doesn't make any difference myself. But what's the difference- all I gotta do is look at your pics, most of them got a license plate on them. (will be sending in a pic shortly myself)

I work around state crime computers, and yes, it is very easy for someone with the know-how to pull up anything about you with just your name and social sec #.

In a few days, Georgia will be issueing a new driver's license, and from now on when a person gets his license for the first time, the state will keep an electronic copy of your bith certifiacate, social sec. card, and any other pertinent matter in a permanent database linked to the FBI computers. Along with this they supposed to have some fake proof licenses.

What exactly is the point of this? Big Bother?

I'm not paranoid by a long shot. But just because I'm not paranoid, that doesn't mean "they" are not out to get ya.

PS: I'm not a low-life either! :p

Fake-proof...no such thing. What's stopping somebody from breaking into a DMV and stealing the computer, I.D. printer, camera, etc.? Do you really think that they would issue new I.D.'s to everyone in the ENTIRE state just because somebody had the balls and the know-how to break in, steal the machines, and print off some "real fake I.D.'s" for their buddies?

he he, well I try not to be Koby... :-)

Its not a 'bad' topic Matthew... Hang around here a little longer and I'm sure you'll get to see a REAL flame war LOL. Get a dweb sticker on your bumper if you don't have one allread and if you see someone w/ a sticker (or who looks like a dwebber) send them a shout out in the general section and they will usually respond if they do indeed freqent this site.

Your SS number should be protected at ALL times. Identity theft has been on the rise for years and a smart criminal can really screw up your credit quickly! Tons of personal information is easily available but why make it easier for them?

Matthew-

I am surprised at the amount of information Georgia wants to bank concerning citizens who have no criminal past. I am not in agreement with an independent state sharing information with the federal government, it just doesn't seem right.

For real Tim, its amazing the number of relatively unimportant forms that ask for you ss#, you don't legally have to give it in most cases so I rarely do. You should also make sure you ss# is NOT printed on your drivers license and keep the card locked up at the bank.

I have a friend who had his SSN on his driver's license and his wallet got stolen in chicago--the thief accessed his bank account and everything--really left him high and dry.

in texas...show up at the dmv. say you lost you drivers license and you want to update your address while you are at it. give them "your" social security number (as in zach's friend's situation above) to "prove" you are who you say you are. give them your address. so now the state has mailed you an ID with someone elses name, but your picture. you know their ssn...man...the hell you could run with that. so yep, carter has good reason to advise caution.

Well , the plate is displayed for the whole world to see every day. The whole blotting out thing is somewhat silly....

actually, i did have a nut stalk me for a time (i have not been stocked, though). i will not say that he got any info from my plates, but he was associated with a compliance auditing job i had for a while and my car was the easiest way for him to gain information on me. so no, i am not terrifed of masses of people "getting the drop" on me because of my plates, but it is possible for one guy to get pissed off and do some searching. hell, ask john lee if that guy ever showed up with his 5'11" frame. probably no, but you can see how at a simple day at work, you can suddenly become the focus of one angry individual. why make it easier for that jackass to invade your privacy and security? but, do whatever you want. me, i have photos of my truck on the web and you can see the plates, but i am also aware that there are some crazy, unhindged individuals out there.

you really can't get all that much info just from a license plate number...Big brother at work? This site lets others look up your drivers license and photo. Go to the site, look up your license and then click remove to get off the list.

in texas, you can pay something like 5 bucks and get the address and name of the registered owner of the vehicle.

In California last year something like 100,000 state employees ssn's were compromised. Bad part was the State taking over a month to tell them about it. Here in Arizona Tri-West had an office broken into and a few hard drives taken (along with personal info on active and retired military families).

Check out the crazy security they're adding to our drivers licences.
Going to be "the most secure drivers licence in North America" http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/driverslicence/

I've never paid much attention to this type of thing, but the comments above are making me think twice.
