I hear good things about these models, and I am looking at buying one of two that are available to me. Can you guys point anything out to me that I should be looking for? Specific rust areas? Typical maintenance problem areas? I know the pnuematic (how the hell do you spell that word anyway?) suspension has some issues and that many just replace them with springs....anything else?

I'm a Discovery guy, so this is new territory for me! I appreciate any help.

Most of the underpinnings are the same as the disco 1, just with a longer frame. If your comfortable working around the Disco, you'll be in good shape. There are more electronic doodads on the rangie, but that's about all.

Same rust areas (no alpine windows though) same engine for the most part, same suspension, different transfer case which can be a sore spot. I've got well over 100k/147k miles on my RRs with no issues.

Good luck in your purchase..

Thanks, that is good news. My Disco is a D2, so the rust issues are not yet apparent, so any further insight there is appreciated. I know the old Series trucks were far more rust prone, or that might just be age.....either way, this being the last model year (1995) of the Classic Rangie, LR got most of the bugs out just in time to start selling the 4.0 SE about which I'm told to steer clear of in the 1995 model....

Rusting areas on the RRs are basically the floors (as they see hard use), the shock towers, the wheel arches, and the tailgate upper. If you live in the snowbelt and you have salted roads, be sure to hose down the truck when you get home.

A club? hehehe nah, I off-road with a group of guys from the Philly area who you would probably recognize from on here....I guess we could be considered a club, but we haven't developed a secret handshake or password yet!

My wife is thrilled with the Rangie, she took it to work to show off today! LOL
