I am interested in installing a second battery in my Range Rover Classic. I was wondering if maybe i could get a pointer or two. The only place i can see where one would go is infront of the air filter. However, the ignition coil and horn and the "horn" from the airbox are right there. My other thought was that the removal of the "horn" on the airfilter will reduce the airflow into the engine. My plan was to install a system similar to John Lee's Defender. That is install a snorkle and incorporate a filter into the top of it. Then route the snorkle right to the MAF. this would get rid of the airfilter box and make room for another battery. Is there an easy way or is there some other place you can mount the battery. Thanks in advance.

You pretty much answered it yourself.
Relocate the coil (pick a spot).
Either replace the airbox with a conical filter (in the meantime) or remove the horn from the airbox (really...how much power loss would you expect from a low-rpm, low-hp engine? We're not talking Ricer Modifications of Urban Legend here...). Heck, if you are really worried about the airflow, take a Dremel and make the entire opening larger after you remove the horn...

If anyone's interested, I just finished installing and documenting a new dual battery setup on my 93 Classic.

Now I've got room for that compressor...

I'd offer pics of mine but it's a '74 2-door 3.5 (no EFI) so I have plenty of room. Besides, at the moment it's not even hooked up. Or running. Since you brought it up - anyone have a wiring diagram?

Ozzie,

Did you use Painlesswiring's dual battery system for switching between batteries? The switch and the little lights looks like what they use.

scrover's dual battery set up is the nicest I've seen, pictures don't do it justice.. or maybe steve just takes shitty pictures (LOL).

horn is for flow uniformity, doesnt increase mass flow. search bernoulli effect
