BJ, thanks for asking... OK, First offits an S model with only the stereo upgrade and heated seats. Simply a base vehicle. Ive put 3500 miles on the wee beastie now. Here are my findings. Mileage continues to be 21ish highway and 18ish in the city. No problems have cropped up since the initial oddity of the fuel gauge sticking. It continues to not leak oil, water, air or any other typical things. It doesnt attract a lot of attention, even though I probably have the only one within a 90 mile radius (closest dealer is 110 miles away) As for the creature comforts I have found the luggage space to be a little cramped with the dog guard in place, and of course you can forget about carrying anything long. Front and rear leg room is great and has surprised many riders. Like a Range Rover, the seats are tall and the roof is low, if you cant fold up to get in you might bump your head (and I am only 57) But the seats are comfortable, I dont miss power at all. I love the heated windscreen and seats. The heater has a tendency to over cook the drivers right foot but the controls have enough variability to re direct it once you smell the burning flesh. The A pillar does get in the way of visibility every now and then, and the steering wheel obscures the Buttons on both sides of the binnacle. When its raining, opening the door drenches the side of the seat. A cool feature; when the front wiper is on and you put it in reverse, the rear wiper comes on and clears the rear window, when you go into drive it shuts off. Another thing I noticed; when the rear seat is folded the back window is either up or down, no stopping it in the middle. (maybe I need to rear the owners manual to check upon all this) Since I got it I have done the following: Genuine bull bar, front and rear lamp guards, side runners, waterproof seat covers Non genuine dog guard (all in stock at TRG) Still due in: the Safety Devices roofrack I will put a few pictures up later today |

"The heater has a tendency to over cook the drivers right foot" LOL just like a smith's round in a series! The more things change . . . Ron |

Hey David, It was good seeing you at the Uwharrie. Chris in his 109 and me in my Disco both had a blast. My roverless friend that 'came along for the ride' is still basking in the after glow of all the gorgeous rovers he saw. After the first day of trail riding he was hooked. He really liked the looks of your Freelander. Question is, how did it do on the trails? He would only be doing the easy trails and the moderate ones when they aren't too muddy. In addition to the stock performance of the Freelander he wanted to know if it can be modified to make it slightly more trail capable... Do you know of anyone who has set them up with a small lift and slightly larger tires? Thanks, Jason |

Jason, it was good to meet you guys as well. The Freeloader did great on the trails, it just cruised along like a drive to the shops. The only problem was breakover angle. On the erosion stops (the whoopdiedoos along the trails) it would over center and actually lift both back wheels off the ground, but with traction control it never even hesitated. The low point was the center silencer, which now is flattened.( Note 1. remove center muffler and run straight pipe back to rear muffler and gain 2" clearance.) I am working on a lift to gain about 2" suspension lift as well, and look at an uprating of the tires to a 275 profile for a 1" increase in diameter. David |
