I got new genuine plug wires, and want to change the dist. cap and plugs at the same time. Is it recommended to use genuine cap, and any advice on plugs?

Thanks,
Tom

If your going genuine, use the champion plugs. I use Bosch Plat in my 88RRC and have been happy. I have heard the Bosch Plat 4 have a tendency to foul.

Don't forget to also replace the dizzy rotor if you are replacing the cap. Be careful the rotor can often be a B@*$H to remove. Don't yank up on it, you can easily damage the dizzy. Search the BBS for directions, most have to split it to get it out.

I would only use LR or Lucas cap and rotors.

This is what I use for plugs: NGK spark plug# BPR5EVX, stock# 4875. It is a high performance platinum plug that is built like a tank. It will cause your engine to run smoother and they don't wear out like copper plugs do. Expect to have to order these plugs and pay up to $10 each for them.

DO NOT leave the store with NGK V-Power plugs! Do not walk out with cheap redneck plugs/cap/rotor which will just cause your engine to misfire.

dogonnet,
did I miss sumptin here?
$10 ea for spark plugs!

do they change themselves?
is the cap, rotor & wires included?

lets hope they come pre lubed,
because somebody got screwed.
first was ordering hot rod plugs,
when its a rover being fitted.
contradiction of terms comes to mind here.

second up.
Where is this redneck brand stuff sold?
I wanna stay away from them,
how can I spot these parts?

I realise that it would take you 2 semesters to pay off a $80 bill for parts. But once you put in the NGK platinums you don't have to change them again. I would also recomend switching to Magnecore 8.5 wires, which also work more perecisely and last much longer than LR wires.

The NGK platinums are not "hot rod" plugs. They are the normal plugs which are used on the majority of engines worldwide. NGK does stock $2 plugs too, just like every other maker.

I wouldn't call deliberately ordering parts being screwed. But I might call walking of Pep Boys with a multi tip plug a big mistake.

please splai'n the difference to me.
"a spark plug provides a replacable
ignition source for the combustion chamber"

nascar uses champs in all engines.
they are off the shelf #1 units
& indexed to the chambers on all 358 heads.
they also get changed often to check the 'burn'

they get .99c plugs for free;
plugs you paid $10 ea for
do you a non service if they are never pulled
& checked!

OH BOY!
big yeller wires on my rig!
my teckee (owner also)has
(I swear!)has factory wires on the 'dirtbag'
(90 RRC &170k mi)
likes plug wires as long as they look pretty &
match the paint.
blue for blue
& yeller for yellow.

I hope your rig hauls butt Randall,
from my reading it ought to be badas!

I wish I had the $ & time!

Luke,

I'm in NY on vacation. Be back Sunday, have to wait until next week. The kona coffee sounds good though.
