I remember hearing that some folks have been out there. How long is the trail? Many trails or just one? How to get there? I'm going to try to get there Sunday. Thanks |

Big Levels/Snow Shoe Creek/German River trails. I have been to them once and that was a while ago. They weren't that long of trails. Much like the trails you will find around Harrisonburg, VA.. |

James- Big Levels is OK, if you go straight up (you have the option of taking switchbacks). It is really fun in the snow. A few good twisted sections, other than that pretty tame. But a good, close to town trail. I'll cruise over there with you sometime, particularly if we get a snow. Enoch Shoe Creek used to be tough, but was graded out a year or so ago. |

From Lake Sherando, take Fire Road 42 (Coal Road or Stone Road or something like that). You turn left, up the mountain, on the trail. It's out there a ways. It has been locked at certain times in the past. Check grid A-3, on page 54 of a Virginia Gazatteer. |
