Okay, so Ivan and I found this vehicle on ebay and he says if he gets a new one..that's the one he wants. BUT, he would never buy from Ebay and we are far from Texas. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1869587357 My question is directed to those who work at the dealerships...or anyone who knows actually... How many of these were made in white for 2002 and could a dealership order one pre-owned? |

Sus, just remember. On the '02's, you won't be able to lock the CDL. |

I believe that 100 white, 100 gray, and 150 yellow Kalaharis were built. |

I thought those were dealer installed options? I mean, what could be so technical about adding that blacked out hood and those $G sliders? If the factory did build them, $G must've really stike a deal $$$. I'm sure someone can confirm this... -glenn |

Glen, Its just not the Sliders and the blacked out hood that drove me to buy the Kalahari. I went to the dealer to buy a basic Disco 2. But the interior is really what sold me. Its not the duragrain nor is it 100% leather but its half cloth and half leather. The part you park your ass in and the back of the seat is this cloth stuff and the sides are leather. I also liked the darker interior. Well i also got it for the price of a SE and its Yellow! Oh and yes the roof rack was a dealer installed option. Now i also see some Kalaharis with a sticker package. Mine came with no stickrers. I think the Kalaharis in D-webs gallery have the stickers. They have KALAHARI on the winsheild in big fat white letters, the USA flags on the front side fenders by the hood, Kalahari on the sides and some other crap. I`m glad mine didn`t come with that shit!! |

Jeff, The point I was trying to make was that, I didn't think that the Kalahari's came from the other side of the pond that way. I think it's easy enough for LRNA or even the local dealers to perform these mods so as far as official quantities are concerned, I don't think we can never be too sure. I have no doubts that the options in the Kalahari package are great, (heck, I would love to have one if I can afford it) I just didn't think that they came that way from Solihull. Cheers! -glenn On a side note, Paramus Land Rover (NJ) had a new RR in their lobby and along the side is a set of 20" bling-bling rims (chrome Niche Wheels) that said "New RR upgrade rims". I've always went by To each his own but damn!... |

I would think the interior, wheels and gulf states front at least came from the factory. Not sure about the rest. I doubt SG shipped a bunch of sliders to England just so they could be put on there, but maybe so. What confused me was that the ones the dealer ordered kept changing. They added quite a few decals, took some off (to help try and sell the things), added BFGs on one and racks with lights. I remember seeing one with SD on the front quarter panels, a week later it said Kalahari. That definitely makes me think certain parts of the pkg. were dealer installed. I do remember too the 50 gray, 150 yellow, 150 white numbers. As much as I like the 3rd generation RR I too saw one, but on the road, with the twankies all shiney and new. First thing that popped into my head was what to call it.... The Range Rover "Bling-Bling" edition. Too funny, I think most rover enthusiast are/or will think the same thing when they see that.... it just isn't right! |

Glen, Sorry if I mis-took you. I agree alot of the Kalahari options are most likely installed here at the dealers. |

Actually, Rovers are supposedly shipped over on steel rims... when they hit port, the alloys are installed, and the steel ones shipped back to the factory for the next batch of Rovers. I can't verify that story, but that is what I've been told...... FWIW..... -L |

Leslie - the Rovers are offloaded in the port of Baltimore all the time and I drive by everday - looks like they all come off the boats with alloys intact. Bill |

Okay, then scratch that comment I made..... May have been historically correct or something, ie, back w/ DIs, but not w/ the DII, given the different wheel bolt pattern.....

Here's the original Land Rover/Ford press release, showing what was to be included on the Kalaharis: http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=7947. In fact, they showed up here without stickers, roof rack, and build-number badge. My theory is that Land Rover wanted to give the dealers an opportunity to sell some dealer-added stuff, so the roof rack was not ultimately included. I really wanted that Trek-style rack with the mesh floor. Oh well. And I had to pay for a preposterous "carbon-fibre trim package" as well. |

Thanks for all the discussion everyone! Ivan and I agree that it's mostly the special interior that we like...b/c we could just have all the other stuff included as options at some point. But he was concerned about the CDL issue...so we will wait another year and maybe he'll make a run for the new 2003. Do they have the CDL?! |

Sus, Greg is correct. LR Main Line (where alyssa works) has an 02 white Kalahari that just came out of loaner service and is for sale. Call Alyssa if you are interested 610 520 2000 I can crawl under and see if it is CDL capable if you like, though I kinda doubt it. Ron (puppy's dad, alyssa's husband) |

Thanks Ron...it would be good to know. Maybe I'll visit it when I head to PA for work in November...actually, I'll probably stop by anyway just for fun! I scoped out the rover place here my first day! (VA Beach) Now someone has to explain to me exactly how less capable it would be without the CDL. Since everyone has mentioned it, I'm guessing it's a big deal....but i'm still a little foggy... |

Boy, you just missed a big exchange on the disco2owners group on this whole CDL D2 thing. Go check the archives there, I thought it was some pretty good info, though the tone in some cases got a little pissy. |

Ours has 5300 miles, has the SG Rock Sliders, has never been titled, and is $33,900. It is white & it is really cool. I love the Kalahari! I do wonder why they only made 50 in B Grey, though. That's such a pretty color, and I think it goes so well with the grills, wheels, and interior colors. |

http://www.northeastbritishparts.com/ i dont know what hte bumper is, but i think it is trimmed so that the "skirt" is removed and endcaps to suit. the grill is a big open mesh, like a thick chicken wire. rd |
