Check out this thread about some of our "lowly" east coast trails. Of course there isn't the adventure of driving 3000 miles to get there, I agree...
Nice to see a Disco man finally representin'.

Well Enoch, if you're on the East Coast and Tellico is on the East Coast, and Tellico is so cool, why aren't you hitting Tellico? Go and play and do some "Disco Representin'" yourself.

We decided to do some ETREEMMME/HARDCORE wheelin' (like the west coast boys do) this weekend. This time we decided to get ourselves a guide and have him show us how it's done. We got this guy we met down in VA. He goes by the name "Weedoggie". He is truly an off-road master/god.

Check out this pic of him and his rig:

My tongue in cheek attempt to follow up the Dusy Ershim trail thread must have hit a little close to home. I'll follow up all my posts with "not serious" from now on, so Mr. Lee (and others) won't take them quite so personal. I couldn't give a damn where you live or where you wheel, and don't have anything against Californians. I do, however, have something against people that use this board as a chance to unload the chip that they carry around on their shoulders!

The point I was really trying to make (I f***ing detest "rapspeak" or whatever you want to call it, by the way) is that it was good to see a Disco on a specific trail that is mostly run by trailer queens (or locals who's trucks should be on trailers). Plus, I thought that thread had some pretty darn good 4x4 photography on it.

Anyway, I give up on you hotheads. I wasn't saying Tellico was "so cool", and I have wheeled my Disco there. It is a totally different experience than running an epic trail like Rubicon or Dusy or doing the Hudson Bay treks. But each place has its own merits.

west of the rockies = west coast,

east of mississippi = east coast,

anywhere in between who cares.

The big difference in the trails is that all the trails on the East Coast are just "Fuck around trails" , they dont really go anywhere and arent really that long. Doesnt really give you much of a sense of adventure or accomplishment...
Running into hoards of people is kind of a turn off as well...

Did you mean to say "The Disco Man" instead of "A Disco Man" ?? Cause there are plenty of Discoveries "Representin" all over this bitch...

Enoch,

I enjoyed your post. It was the one after yours by John Lee that annoyed me. I agree with you. Where does all that hostility come from on John Lee's post? Maybe he is unhappy with his life or at home. This website is no place to be a jerk. It is for enthusiasts to share knowledge, thoughts, pictures and laughs.

My reference to rappers had nothing to do with your post. It had to do with rappers' EC-WC rivalry not the language you used in your posting.

Peace out and one love!

Robb,

"This website is no place to be a jerk. It is for enthusiasts to share knowledge, thoughts, pictures and laughs."

Great quote man. Not really true though - the tech section is (more) for that kinda thing. On the other hand, if you're the amusing smart-alec type (eg John) then this is the place to be. A laugh is always welcome in my opinion, and fuck knows it happens to all of us, and most of us just laugh it off.

So, if Kyle tells me all I do is fuck around here on the east coast, that's fine with me coz I love fucking around here on the east coast, (wannabeing camel-trophy type, you know.)

Well what would you call em Dean ? You have been both places. I am comparing "Trails" that are a couple miles long and are loops that go from highway to highway or power lines ,to, full on trails that are from 10 to 30 miles long. I have run em an its just fucking around , like the barrens , one giant fuck off spot....
Here everyone gathers around one spot and takes turns running over it time after time cause its the only thing on the "Trail" that poses a challenge. THERE , you dont have the time to do that shit cause the trails are so obstacle ridden you would never get out...
I have done both as well and both have their place for sure... I enjoy fucking around at times as much as anyone else does..
It all depends on your agenda...

Kyle, I definitely did not say "THE disco man"... Check my post. "A disco man". I realize that there are lots of "disco men" (and women) all over, just not at Tellico. JBS doesn't have a lock on anything. But Tellico is the land of rockcrawlers and 38" tires. I would bet that the number of Discoveries that have run lower 2 at Tellico are less than 6. (Wild guess, would be a good thread to start.)
I appreciated your rational explanation of the differences between our trails and the ones out west. You were right on. We just have trails to screw around on. In fact, I've been trying to plan a 3-4 day off-road trip in Va and WVa, for a while now, and it ain't been easy. You just have to string together short runs and fuck-off spots, and lots of fire roads.

Enoch,

You thump your chest about Tellico. "We have great trails too", you say. I say that's great and I tell you to go and hit Tellico yourself. You get pissed off and say I have a chip on my shoulder.

I disagree. From my way of looking at things, you are the one with the chip on his shoulder. JBS does Tellico. You see the pics and got pumped up and cheer, "Take that West Coasters!" Think about that for a minute. You're not even the one doing the trail running. The only nexus between you and JBS is that you both own the same make and model vehicle. But you live vicariously through JBS because that's all you have, and you seem to think that gives you standing to thump your chest about Tellico.

That's why I told you to go and run Tellico. I don't tell other East Coasters to run Tellico because they don't thump their chest about it.

Well , I still aint seeing that Tellico is all that you make it out to be E. And I also dont think that its "Finally representin" . As far as tellico being the land of the rock crawlers. Well,,,,so is Moab , so is Canada , so is the Rubicon and Dusi... Hell , the boys with 38s make everything seem like its a necessity to have them so the same could be said about everthing we been running for years......

John, since this has become a personal quest for you...

1.0 You have put quotes around two things that I have not said, in either post. Please use my actual words from now on.
2.0 I wasn't aware I was thumping my chest about Tellico. Thanks for letting me know. I did post that because I had just heard so much about how great the western trails are, and wanted to show there are a few back here that are pretty good, too. As we have established by our posts today, they are COMPLETELY different types of trails, and therefore cannot and should not be directly compared.
3.0 As I mentioned before, I have run trails at Tellico. NOT the ones in the pictures.
4.0 Your dig at me for "living vicariously" through JBS is kind of ridiculous, because we ALL live vicariously through each other's pictures and stories. That's why we're here.
5.0 And finally, nowhere in this thread have I gotten pissed off! I don't have a chip on my shoulder about anything. And still don't, even though you've misunderstood me. My remark about chips on shoulders was backed up by other people's comments, and is really a general statement for the whole site as much as a specific reference to this thread. DiscoWeb is a kind of a break from reality sometimes, and it sucks when people are bitching at each other about stupid shit.

Anyway, I have other stuff to do besides exchange words on a BBS over some ridiculous misunderstanding. Let's talk again when both of us actually have something productive to say.

Kyle- you might be right, I may be underestimating our trucks. I think it would be a great trip to go to Tellico sometime, whenever you'd like. Have you been there? I would like to run it with a bunch of Discos, and get my ass kicked by something besides a J**P or a Cruiser for a change.

Enoch,

What "ridiculous misunderstanding"? I think I got you pegged pretty well.

Yeah, you've been to Tellico. Big deal. That is sort of like saying, "I've been to Moab". It's a meaningless statement. Trails at Moab range from dirt roads to Armageddon. So saying you've been to Tellico doesn't say much. I took a look at your gallery and from the looks of your MAR Assault Vehicle, you drove to Tellico more for bird watching than to wheel.

However, all is not yet lost. Eric, Mike, and Greg are planning a run to Tellico, right before our very eyes. Now is your chance to live your own life instead of living vicariously through others. Go with these guys and live a little. I'm serious here.

Thanks, John, I will. If I can find someone to take time out from all the birdwatching we'll be doing. :)

And Kyle, I missed the post where you declined the offer to go! Too bad. Without going, it's hard to judge a place. I hear so many rumours, I'd like to wheel with you sometime. Maybe Gore or somewhere closer when we've both got time to kill.

Greg, et al, when should we go? Email me off-line anytime, so we don't get ridiculed. I talked to a couple of guys today who would like to just go along to laugh at us and help pick up the broken shit.

I wouldn't bring mine. She gets nervous when sheet aluminum crunches. And she really hates extended recovery efforts!
Yes, Eric, there are plenty of trail options. Running the hardest ones isn't even really an option, I don't think, even though Kyle would beg to differ from the pictures he has seen. :) I guess you'd have to check it out. It would take a long time, if even possible, to get through some of the spots, and there's always some guy there who would rather just drive over your truck to get past. We really need to pick a weekend when nothing is scheduled, or there are too many people.
I wish Kyle would go...

Enoch,

I go about 2 or 3 times a year to Tellico and camp at the stateline camp ground right off trail 1. You'll stay on trail 5 then 4 then 6 if you avoid the really rough stuff. Coming down 6 is a bear at night trust me. Going up 6, pick up 4 to 5 and eat lunch in Fain's Ford river crossing then out 5 and down will take a good 3 hours to finish. Take 3 all the way around to Rock Garden and back up 11 and 8 until you reach Guard Rail. Then get out and walk up to watch the godzilla trucks break shit.

I've seen your truck and you can hang tough on any trail at Tellico except slick rock (although I saw a guy take a disco up it once, turn around and winch back down), rock garden and school bus.

Listen up here though. Do not screw with the park rangers. They will bust you for $150 a can if they catch even unopened or empty beers in your truck so leave the cooler in camp. Don't show your ass up there and behave like a gentleman and you will be treated the same. Buy gas before you reach the trails, the station down at the little fish hatchery has a welder, but shitty gas.

The trails close for the winter I think so check on that first. I will be there in May and again in August for certain and maybe even before may.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ron. I also appreciate the ideas on which order to run the trails. The year before last I ran 4 and some of the lesser trails of which I forget the numbers. But I couldn't tell you what order we ran them. My friends that were there this spring said they were much more worn out, and had changed considerably. Always fun. Let's try to coordinate going down there sometime. The Great Smoky Mountain Trail Ride in March (I think) was the time I went, with Cruiser friends. It's a good time to get exposed to other parts of the wheeling world.

E,

Trail 5 had a Dozier treatment between May and August of this year and Quarterpanel Tree, while still there, is no longer any trouble since the rock ledge notorious for swinging the back end of a Disco into the tree is gone. BUT, 6 is washed out and strewn with rocks like VW's and can rip sheet aluminum with ease.

The place is a blast and always the best trip of the year. Enjoy and let me know when y'all go, backchannel of course.
