I was wondering if anyone on this board had done a 4.0short to 4.6short low end conversion? From the research I have done and the opinions from this forum I have concluded that this is the cheapest, easiest, and most reliable form of power upgrade. From a mechanical standpoint is it as easy as it seems? What gremlins hide inside? Any chipping issues? Thanks, and sorry if I am rehashing an old topic.

P.S. - Oh yeah, I have a 2000 Disco2(Bosch electricals)

Did you see the thread below about the 4.6 swap into the Classic. Same idea, but it would be much easier in your rig. You can re-use everything from the top side of your engine. Other expense would be the re-chip. Check out the links.

I did happen to drive behind a '87 RRC with a stage 1 3.9 engine from RPI couple of weeks ago. And let me tell you it kicked ass!

I have been in contact with RPI for a week now. The "Low end conversion kit" is not available due to the crank being unavailable. They do sell the block with all componants for 1450lbs. which converts to about $2300. Not a bad price but I was hoping to reuse my block since I have used Mobile 1 from day 1 and it only has 35000 miles. Oh well I probably won't go that route but if the kit they offer becomes available again I'm gonna jump on it.
